The Northside Festival is an annual week-long summer showcase celebrating emerging "music, innovation and art" in Brooklyn, New York, United States. [1] The festival is held at venues across the neighborhoods of Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bushwick and is organized by Northside Media Group, the publishers of The L Magazine , Brooklyn Magazine, Playwright's Horizon and BAMbill.

History

Northside was started in 2009 by Brooklyn's Northside Media Group, which published the L Magazine and Brooklyn Magazine. [2]

The festival is a showcase of Brooklyn's recent cultural renaissance. [3] [4] Every June for the past decade, Northside has brought hundreds of bands, artists and speakers to the festival. Past performers include Guided By Voices, Solange, [5] Brian Wilson, [6] Miguel, [7] Dirty Projectors, Beirut, Girlpool [8] and more. Past speakers include Mayor Bill de Blasio, [9] Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, [10] SNL's Sasheer Zamata, [11] hotelier Ian Schrager, writer Piper Kerman and Kickstarter CEO Yancey Stickler.

Bitte Orca is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Dirty Projectors, released on June 9, 2009, by Domino Recording Company. The word "bitte" is a German word for "please", and "orca" is another name for a killer whale. Frontman David Longstreth states that he liked the way the words sounded together. Longstreth notes that the music contained within the album "felt very [much] about colors, and their interaction," and that the music was written with the notion of the band, as a whole, in mind.

The L Magazine was a free bi-weekly magazine in New York City featuring investigative articles, arts and culture commentary, and event listings. It was available through distribution in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Hoboken.

Moses Sumney is a Ghanaian-American singer-songwriter. His self-recorded EP, Mid-City Island, was released in 2014. He released another five-song EP in 2016, titled Lamentations. His first full-length album, Aromanticism, was released in September 2017. His second studio album, Græ, was released in 2020. Sumney has performed as an opening act for James Blake, Solange Knowles, and Sufjan Stevens.
