Northside Wizards is a NBL1 North club based in Brisbane, Queensland. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 North. The club is a division of Northside Basketball Inc., the major administrative basketball organisation in northern Brisbane. The Wizards play their home games at Northside Indoor Sports Centre.

Club history

Northside Basketball's history stems back to 1935 when the Brisbane Women's Basketball Club was formed. In 1951 the name was changed to Brisbane Men's and Women's Basketball and in 1990 it became known as the Brisbane Community Basketball Association. In 1993, the club began trading as the Brisbane Wizards. [1]

Competing in the Queensland Basketball League (QBL), the club became known as Northside Wizards in 2003. [2] [3] [4] In 2010, the women's team reached the QBL grand final, where they lost to the Gladstone Port City Power. [5] The Wizards left the QBL after the 2015 season. [6] [7] [8]

The Wizards played in the Queensland State League (QSL) in 2020 [9] [10] and then joined the NBL1 North in 2021. [11]

In 2023, the women's team reached the NBL1 North grand final series, where they defeated the Rockhampton Cyclones 2–0, with 87–52 in game one and 70–59 in game two. [12] [13] [14]

The 2015 Men's Queensland Basketball League season was the 30th running of the competition. The Mackay Meteors won the championship in 2015 to claim their third league title.

Tim Coenraad is an Australian former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Nova Southeastern Sharks before playing 14 seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL) with the Illawarra Hawks. He helped the Hawks reach grand finals in 2010 and 2017 and won Club MVP in 2015.

USC Rip City is a former NBL1 North club based in Sunshine Coast, Queensland. The club was a division of the University of the Sunshine Coast Basketball Association (USCBA) and played their home games at USC Stadium.

Shaun Bruce is an Australian professional basketball player for the Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League (NBL). He is also contracted with the Logan Thunder of the NBL1 North. He began his NBL career in 2012 as a development player with the Cairns Taipans, before earning a full-time roster spot in 2013. In 2016, he moved south to join the Brisbane Bullets. After half a season with the Adelaide 36ers in 2019, he joined the Kings.

Jarred Bairstow is an Australian professional basketball player for the Southern Districts Spartans of the NBL1 North. He played three seasons of college basketball in the United States for the Central Oklahoma Bronchos before returning to Australia and spending the 2016–17 season as a development player with his hometown Brisbane Bullets in the NBL. Cameron Tragardh is an Australian former professional basketball player who played 13 seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL). He made his debut in the NBL in 2003 and played for the Townsville Crocodiles, Brisbane Bullets, Wollongong Hawks, Melbourne Tigers, and Cairns Taipans across his career. He was named NBL Most Improved Player in 2008 and NBL Best Sixth Man in 2015. He was also named to the All-NBL Team twice.
