Gold Coast Rollers is a NBL1 North club based in Gold Coast, Queensland. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 North. The club is a division of Gold Coast City Regional Basketball Association, the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Rollers play their home games at Carrara Indoor Stadium.

Club history

In 1959, the Gold Coast Amateur Basketball Association was established. [1]

The Queensland State Basketball League (QSBL) began in 1986, and in 1987, the Cougars men won their first championship. They went on to win their second title a year later, defeating the Townsville Suns in back-to-back grand finals. [2] Following a Gold Coast Cougars team entering the National Basketball League in 1990, the club changed their name to Gold Coast Warriors. In 1994, the QSBL joined the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and became the association's North Conference; Gold Coast was one of 12 teams in the conference's inaugural season. [3] In 1998, the Warriors hosted the CBA National Grand Finals, marking the first time the National Finals were held in Queensland. [4] [5]

In 2002, the club went through name changes, with the men's team being renamed the Goannas and the women's team being renamed the Gliders. In 2007, the Goannas reached the QABL Grand Final series, [2] where they were defeated 2–0 by the Cairns Marlins. [6]

In 2011, both teams were rebranded as Gold Coast Rollers. [7]

In 2019, both teams made grand final appearances, with both finishing as runners-up. [8] [9] [10]

For the 2020 season, the Rollers joined the newly-established NBL1 North, which replaced the QBL. [11] In 2022, the Rollers men won the NBL1 North championship. [12] [13] [14] [15]

Adam Matthew Gibson is an Australian former professional basketball player who played 16 years in the National Basketball League (NBL). He made his NBL debut in 2005 and went on to play for five NBL franchises. He is a two-time NBL champion, having won his first in 2007, with the Brisbane Bullets and his second in 2009, with the South Dragons. He is also a five-time All-NBL Team member and was crowned the NBL Best Defensive Player in 2009.

Chris Goulding Australian basketball player

Christopher James Goulding is an Australian professional basketball player for Melbourne United of the National Basketball League (NBL). He made his debut in the NBL in 2006 as a development player with the Brisbane Bullets, going on to play for the Perth Wildcats and Gold Coast Blaze, before settling in Melbourne. In the NBL, Goulding is a three-time championship winner and a two-time All-NBL First Team honouree. He also won the league's scoring title in 2014 and claimed Grand Final MVP honours in 2018. Goulding is a regular with the Australian Boomers, but he also holds a British passport thanks to his father, which allowed him to play as a local in Spain and Italy between 2014 and 2016.

Jason Robert Cadee is an Australian professional basketball player for the Brisbane Bullets of the National Basketball League (NBL). He is also the team captain for the Bullets.

Logan Thunder is a NBL1 North club based in Logan, Queensland, Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 North. The club is a division of Logan Basketball Inc., the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Thunder play their home games at Cornubia Park Sports Centre.

Mitchell Robert Norton is an Australian professional basketball player for the Perth Wildcats of the National Basketball League (NBL). He began his career in 2011 with the Townsville Crocodiles before joining the Illawarra Hawks in 2016 following the collapse of his hometown team. After two seasons with the Hawks, he joined the Wildcats in 2018 where he won two consecutive championships. He has also played for the Townsville Heat in the Queensland Basketball League and the Southland Sharks in the New Zealand NBL.

USC Rip City is a NBL1 North club based in Sunshine Coast, Queensland. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 North. The club is a division of the University of the Sunshine Coast Basketball Association (USCBA), one of two major administrative basketball organisations in the region, the other being Sunshine Coast Basketball Association. The Rip play their home games at USC Stadium.

The 2014 Men's Queensland Basketball League season was the 29th running of the competition. The Rockhampton Rockets won the championship in 2014 to claim their fifth league title.

Shaun Bruce is an Australian professional basketball player for the Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League (NBL). He began his NBL career in 2012 as a development player with the Cairns Taipans, before earning a full-time roster spot in 2013. In 2016, he moved south to join the Brisbane Bullets. After half a season with the Adelaide 36ers in 2019, he joined the Kings.

The 2013 Men's Queensland Basketball League season was the 28th running of the competition. The Rockhampton Rockets won the championship in 2013 to claim their fourth league title.

The 2011 Men's Queensland Basketball League season was the 26th running of the competition. The Mackay Meteors won the championship in 2011 to claim their first league title.

Kisha Lee is an American professional basketball player for the South West Metro Pirates of the NBL1 North. She played college basketball for UNLV.

Anthony Petrie is an Australian basketball coach and former professional basketball player. He played 11 seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL) between 2007 and 2018. He is currently the head coach of the Gold Coast Rollers in the NBL1 North.

The 2019 QBL season was the 34th and last season of competition since its establishment in 1979. A total of 30 teams contested the league. The Brisbane Capitals won their second men's QBL title, whilst the Southern Districts Spartans successfully defended their women's QBL title. The Gold Coast Rollers reached both grand finals, however were unable to win either.

Will Scott Magnay is an Australian professional basketball player for the Tasmania JackJumpers of the National Basketball League (NBL). He played one season of college basketball for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.

Jarred Bairstow is an Australian professional basketball player for the Hobart Chargers of the NBL1 South. He is also contracted with the Tasmania JackJumpers of the National Basketball League (NBL). He played three seasons of college basketball in the United States for the Central Oklahoma Bronchos before returning to Australia and spending the 2016–17 season as a development player with his hometown Brisbane Bullets in the NBL. He previously played nine seasons across the Queensland Basketball League (QBL) and Queensland State League (QSL), and spent the 2020–21 NBL season with the Perth Wildcats.
