Nosipho Dumisa (born 1988) is a South African writer, director and producer. She co-founded the production company Gambit Films. [1] She wrote and directed her first feature film, the crime thriller Nommer 37 , first as a short in 2014 followed by a feature version in 2018. [2] She created the Netflix series Blood & Water (2020). [3] She previously worked as a producer on the Afrikaans soap opera Suidooster. [4]

Her works have been premiered at South by Southwest and have won international awards. [1] She has sat on the jury of the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland. Her works typically feature Cape Town, where she resides, as a setting. [5]

Early life

Dumisa is from Margate, KwaZulu-Natal. She is Zulu, but learned Afrikaans in school. [4] Initially into acting, an administrative error that enrolled her in a filmmaking course instead of an acting one led her to discover her interest in what happens behind the camera. [6] [7] She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in the Motion Picture Medium from AFDA in 2009. [8]

It was featured at several film festivals including SXSW, the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival, the Sydney Film Festival, and the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, where it won Best Director. The film follows an injured young man, confined to his apartment, who borrows his girlfriend's binoculars to spy on their neighbours, in which he sees an opportunity to turn their lives around after witnessing a crime.

Blood Legacy is a 2024 South African drama television series created and written by Diego Gutiérrez for Netflix. Adapted from the series Monarca, the show was produced by Gambit Films and premiered on September 20, 2024, with twenty episodes. The series stars Xolile Tshabalala as Khanyi Adesina and Anthony Oseyemi as Akin Adesina. Blood Legacy follows Khanyi returning home to take control of her family’s business empire, which is on the verge of collapse due to corruption. Executive producers of the series include Bradley Joshua, Benjamin Overmeyer, Nosipho Dumisa-Ngoasheng, Daryne Joshua, Travis Taute, and Simon Beesley. Actress and producer Connie Chiume passed away during the production of the first season.
