kykNET is a South African Afrikaans-language television channel. Owned by pay-TV operator M-Net, it was launched on the DStv satellite service in 15th November 1999. In its development phase, the channel had the placeholder name The Afrikaans Channel. [1] On 16 July 2014 DStv announced that kykNET would be broadcast in high-definition from 12 August 2014. [2]

A kykNET International service is available online to subscribers in selected countries in North America, Europe and Australasia via the Showmax platform. [3]

It was also previously available in the UK, where it was launched on TalkTalk's IPTV service, TalkTalk Plus TV, in October 2013. [4] However, it was dropped by TalkTalk in December 2015. [5]

Kyknet lekker is available on DStv access but not on other packages. Kyknet en kie, Kyknet nou, en Kyknet via is on DStv access, family, compact, compact+ and DStv premium, while Kyknet 144 HD is available on DStv premium and compact plus. The Flieknet channel is available on all packages for R100 extra as a addon. It is available on DStv premium For free.

Charles J. Fourie is a South African writer and director working in television, film and theater. Fourie staged his first play as a drama student at the Windybrow Theatre in 1985. In 2021/22 he received a writing and research fellowship from the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Studies to develop a new theater format involving artificial intelligence. His latest radio-drama series Alleenmandaat is currently broadcasting on SABC. As of April 2022 he will engage a residency fellowship with the Posthuman Art Network and Foreign Objekt to further develop his latest creative project - AI Performance Narratives. Fourie's play The Parrot Woman was staged in September 2022 at the Market Theater in Johannesburg.

Vat jou goed en trek! Is an Afrikaans home renovation program currently airing in South Africa on the satellite network, KykNET on DSTV. The show is produced by the production company RichCon and is based in Johannesburg and other surrounding cities in South Africa. The program premiered on October 2, 2015, during the networks primetime slot and has since aired a total of 65 episodes spanning over 5 seasons from 2015–present.

Theunis Theodorus Cloete was a South African Afrikaans poet, Bible translator, essayist and academic. In the 1970s he was involved in the revision of the ''Afrikaanse Kerkgesange'' and later in the 1993 translation of the Bible. Cloete was linked to The University of Potchefstroom's School of Language and Literature. He has won numerous literary awards, including the Ingrid Jonker Prize, W.A. Hofmeyr Prize, Hertzog Prize (twice) and the Andrew Murray Prize. Cloete mostly wrote under the penname T. Jansen van Rensburg and published numerous of his poems in magazines under the penname to test the water before his 1980 debut Angelliera.

Wie Word 'n Miljoenêr? is the second South African version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. It is broadcast on kykNET in the Afrikaans language. It is hosted by Rian van Heerden. The top prize is R1,000,000.

Carmen Maarman, is a South African actress and voice-over artist. She is best known for the roles in the television serials such as Lui Maar Op, Belinda, Arendsvlei and Skemerdans.
