Volodymyr Stepanovych Holubnychy was a Soviet and Ukrainian race walker, who competed for the Soviet Union. He dominated the 20 kilometre race walk in the 1960s and 1970s, winning four Olympic medals from 1960 to 1972 and finishing seventh in 1976. He became Olympic champion in 1960 and 1968. He is regarded as one of the greatest race walkers of all time and competed at the Olympics on five occasions in 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1976.

Benin took part in the 2008 Summer Olympics which were held in Beijing, China from 8 to 24 August 2008. The country's participation at Beijing marked its eighth consecutive appearance in the summer Olympics since its debut in 1972, and its ninth Olympic appearance ever. The Benin delegation included five athletes in 2008, participating in three sports: athletics, swimming and taekwondo. Fabienne Feraez, a sprinter, was selected as the flag bearer for the opening ceremony. None of the Benin athletes progressed further than the heat round.
Moslem Eskandar-Filabi or Eskandar Filabi is a retired Iranian heavyweight wrestler who won four gold medals at the Asian Games in 1966-1974. Filabi also competed at the 1968, 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics with the best result of fourth place in 1972; he served as the flag carrier for Iran at the 1976 Games.

Ali Jabbari is an Iranian former football midfielder who played for Iran in the 1972 Summer Olympics. He also played for Taj SC. On 13 May 1972 during a group match at the 1972 AFC Asian Cup, Iran were trailing 2–0 to Thailand. Ali Jabbari turned the match around with a hat-trick in the space of 8 minutes, with goals in 80', 86' and 88', giving Iran first place in the group. He scored again in the final in which Iran beat South Korea.
Park Ki-Won is a South Korean former volleyball player who competed in the 1972 Summer Olympics and in the 1976 Summer Olympics. He played for Korea from 1972–78, competing at the 1972 and 1976 Olympic Games. Park won a gold medal at the 1978 Asian Games in Thailand and was a member of the Korean team that finished fourth at the 1978 World Championship in Italy. Highlights of his coaching include taking Iran's men's team to a silver medal at the 2002 Asian Games and a bronze at the following year's Asian Championship. In 2013 he led the Korean men's team to a silver medal at the Asian Championship.
Behrouz Rahbar was an Iranian cyclist. He competed in three events at the 1972 Summer Olympics according to sports-reference.org and according to the-sports.org he rode in addition the men's sprint event. He also won gold medal in the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran.
Laila Vakil is a former synchronized swimmer from Great Britain. She competed in both the women's solo and the women's duet competitions at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
