Nova et Vetera is a theological review in the tradition of Thomism which focuses on contemporary issues facing the Roman Catholic Church. Published in the Swiss region of Romandy, the main language of the journal is French. It is also published in a distinct English edition founded by Matthew Levering in 2003. Its current co-editors are Matthew Levering of Mundelein Seminary and Thomas Joseph White of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas - Angelicum. The English edition is currently published by the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology.
The English edition of Nova et Vetera is published quarterly and provides an international forum for theological and philosophical studies from a Thomistic perspective. It seeks to be "at the heart of the Church," faithful to the Magisterium and the teachings of the Second Vatican Council, and devoted to the work of true dialogue, both ecumenically and across intellectual disciplines. Nova et Vetera is a peer-reviewed journal.
The journal was founded in 1926 by future Cardinal Charles Journet in association with Jacques Maritain.

Modernism in the Catholic Church attempts to reconcile Catholicism with modern culture, specifically an understanding of the Bible and Catholic tradition in light of the historical-critical method and new philosophical and political developments of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Raymond Edward Brown was an American Sulpician priest and prominent biblical scholar. He was regarded as a specialist concerning the hypothetical "Johannine community", which he speculated contributed to the authorship of the Gospel of John, and he also wrote influential studies on the birth and death of Jesus. Brown was professor emeritus at Union Theological Seminary (UTS) in New York where he taught for 29 years. He was the first Catholic professor to gain tenure there, where he earned a reputation as a superior lecturer.
The University of Saint Mary of the Lake (USML) is a private Roman Catholic seminary in Mundelein, Illinois. It is the principal seminary and school of theology for the formation of priests in the Archdiocese of Chicago in Illinois. It was chartered by the Illinois General Assembly in 1844. USML is often referred to by the name of its graduate program, Mundelein Seminary. Its compound name is University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary.
George Tyrrell was an Anglo-Irish Catholic priest and a leading modernist theologian and scholar. A convert from Anglicanism, Tyrrell joined the Jesuit order in 1880. His attempts to adapt Catholic theology to modern culture and science made him a key figure in the modernist controversy that raged within the Roman Catholic Church in the late 19th century. In the context of the anti-modernist campaign led by Pope Pius X, Tyrrell was expelled from the Jesuits in 1906 and finally excommunicated in 1908.

Charles Morerod, O.P., is a Swiss Dominican prelate. Since 2011, he has been bishop of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg. Previously, he served as Rector of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, professor of dogmatic theology, and Secretary General of the International Theological Commission.

Rev. Robert P. Imbelli is a Christian theologian and Roman Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of New York. Imbelli is an associate professor emeritus of theology at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, where he taught from 1986 to 2014. He was the director of the Institute of Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry at Boston College from 1986 to 1993. He previously taught theology at the New York Archdiocesan Seminary, St. Joseph's Seminary at Dunwoodie (1970–78) and at the Maryknoll School of Theology in Ossining, New York (1978-1986). While teaching in Boston, Imbelli served at Sacred Heart Church in Newton Centre.

His teaching appointments included the Dominican House of Studies, the John Paul II Institute, the Catholic University of America, and Sacred Heart Major Seminary. Martin was an advisor to Cardinal Leo Joseph Suenens during the Second Vatican Council.
