Oğuz (Kurdish : Şimiz; Syriac : Šimiz) [2] is a village in the Beşiri District of Batman Province in Turkey. [3] The village is populated by Kurds and had a population of 405 in 2021. [1] [4] The village is populated by Yazidis. [4]

Contents

The hamlets of Akdoğan, Kışlacık, Onbaşı and Yavuz are attached to the village. [3] Onbaşı is populated by Yazidis as well. [5]

History

Šimiz (today called Oğuz) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Christians. [2] In the Syriac Orthodox patriarchal register of dues of 1870, it was recorded that the village had 3 households, who paid 10 dues, and had one priest, but did not have a church. [2]
