New jack swing, new jack, or swingbeat is a fusion genre of the rhythms and production techniques of hip hop and dance-pop, and the urban contemporary sound of R&B. Spearheaded by producers Teddy Riley, Bernard Belle, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, new jack swing was most popular from the late 1980s to early 1990s.
Lisa Jane Stansfield is an English singer, songwriter, and actress. Her career began in 1980 when she won the singing competition Search for a Star. After appearances in various television shows and releasing her first singles, Stansfield, along with Ian Devaney and Andy Morris, formed Blue Zone in 1983. The band released several singles and one album, but after the success of Coldcut's "People Hold On" in 1989, on which Stansfield was featured, the focus was placed on her solo career.

Unappreciated is the debut studio album by the American girl group Cherish. It was released on August 15, 2006, by Sho'nuff and Capitol Records. The album was co-produced by Jermaine Dupri, along with the group. The sisters co-wrote every song on the album, along with Dupri. In the United States, the album debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200, selling an estimated 91,000 copies in its first week of release. On September 21 that year, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA, for shipments of 500,000 copies. In Japan, the album debuted and peaked at number 20 on the albums chart. In the United Kingdom, the album debuted at number 80 and sold 30,000 copies.
"Don't Leave Me This Way" is a song written by Kenneth Gamble, Leon Huff and Cary Gilbert. It was originally released in 1975 by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass, an act signed to Gamble & Huff's Philadelphia International label. "Don't Leave Me This Way" was subsequently covered by American singer Thelma Houston in 1976 and British duo the Communards in 1986, with both versions achieving commercial success.

"Shame" is the debut single by American singer Evelyn "Champagne" King, written by John H. Fitch Jr. and Reuben Cross. It was released in 1977 by RCA Records as part of King's debut album, Smooth Talk. The extended remix was produced for the twelve-inch vinyl single and would later replace the album version of the song in late-1970s reprints of the album. This was Ready for the World's second R&B chart-topper, following the success of "Oh Sheila" in 1985. It also reached #24 on the Billboard adult contemporary chart. The song charted in the United Kingdom at #60 on the UK Singles Chart. The song has been covered by artists such as R&B singer INOJ and neo soul musician Me'shell Ndegeocello.
