Offworld is the fourth vocal studio album (Seventh overall) by electronic rock project Celldweller, released on July 28, 2017. [2] A change of style for Celldweller, the album focuses on emotional songwriting, marking a departure from the aggressive metal and electronic style found in his previous albums.

Production and release

In January 2017, Klayton announced on Instagram that he was working on a new album (originally titled Offworld: Vol. 01), and posting a short snippet of music. [3] On March 27, Klayton tweeted that the new album was finished, [4] which marks the shortest production time of any major Celldweller release.

The first song from the album, "The Great Divide" was released on June 29, [5] and shortly after that, a cover of The Call's "Too Many Tears". [6] The album was finally released on July 28, 2017, including five original songs, as well as remixes and covers from Klayton's various projects, all reworked to fit the style of the album.

Style

Talking about the inspiration for the album, Klayton stated: [7]

"Winter. At its heart, winter is the season I find myself gravitating towards listening to more emotive & melancholy music. One winters night I found myself in my studio, lights dimmed low, playing with a guitar and a new piece of software. I started plucking out the notes that would eventually become "How Little I Must Know." Lyrics and vocals came together quickly and I soon had a short song finished, but wasn't quite sure where it fit. Thus begun the development of the idea to make a whole album that had a specific feel, and for me captured the essence of the music I loved to listen to during earth's perihelion."

Reception

Mike Bax of PureGrain Audio gave the album a positive review with a rating of 8.5 out of 10, saying: "If there is such a thing as singer/songwriter exploration within the genre of electronic EDM music - Offworld is a prime example of how to do it successfully." [8]

<i>New Demons</i> 2013 studio album by I See Stars

New Demons is the fourth studio album by American electronicore band I See Stars, released on October 22, 2013 through Sumerian Records. The album was originally set for release on August 13, before being pushed back to September 17, and again to October 22 for unknown reasons. The album marks a progression of the sound in their previous album Digital Renegade, with Zach Johnson having a much bigger vocal role, as well as having a much more prominent EDM sound. The song "Violent Bounce" was the first single to be released. It was uploaded to YouTube via the Sumerian Records channel. "Murder Mitten" and the title track, "New Demons", were to follow. End of an Empire is the third vocal studio album from electronic rock project Celldweller. It was released in "chapters", like most of Celldweller's previous works. The first of four chapters, Time, was released on September 16, 2014. The second, Love, was released on December 5, 2014. The third, Dreams, was released on March 13, 2015. The fourth and final chapter, Death, was released on July 17, 2015. The full album was released on November 6, 2015.

<i>Satellites</i> (Celldweller album) 2022 studio album by Celldweller

Satellites is the fifth vocal studio album by electronic rock project Celldweller, released on October 14, 2022. A change of style for Celldweller, the emotional songwriting of his previous album Offworld has been mostly discarded for the return of the usual aggressive metal and electronic aspects found in his earlier albums. Multiple singles were released in the five years leading up to the album's release. A non-single track, "Soul Parasites" would later be remixed by FiXT Music labelmates Void Chapter.
