In 1933, the University of Pretoria decided to build a new library building. Thanks to a contribution of £10,000 from Hans Merensky, a mining geologist, construction on the design by Gerard Moerdijk began in 1937. Gen. Jan Smuts laid the keystone on October 11, 1937, and on April 15, 1938, the centennial anniversary of the Great Trek, the building officially opened. [1]
The Old Merensky Library was declared a national monument on August 31, 1990, by Theodorus Gerhardus Alant, Deputy Minister of National Education, and was proclaimed a provincial heritage site under the National Heritage Resources Act (25/1999). [2]

Richmond Green is a recreation area near the centre of Richmond, a town of about 20,000 inhabitants situated in south-west London. Haw Par Villa is a theme park located along Pasir Panjang Road in Singapore. The park contains over 1,000 statues and 150 giant dioramas depicting scenes from Chinese Literature, folklore, legends, history, and statuary of key Chinese religions, Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism. During the 1970s and 1980s, the park was a major local attraction; it is estimated that the park then welcomed at least 1 million annual visitors, and is considered as part of Singapore's cultural heritage. Botshabelo in the district of Middelburg, in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa, originated as a mission station established by Alexander Merensky of the Berlin Missionary Society (BMS), in February 1865 in what was then the Transvaal Republic (ZAR). Merensky had fled with a small number of parishioners following the attacks on his previous mission station, Ga-Ratau, by the soldiers of Sekhukhune, the king of the baPedi. Within a year of having established the mission station, the population had grown to 420 persons. In 1873 Merensky was joined by BMS missionary Johannes Winter, who went on to found the mission station at Thaba Mosego and also played an instrumental role in the establishment of the Lutheran Bapedi Church, when they seceded from the BMS in 1889.
