In photography and videography, High Dynamic Range (HDR) used to reproduce a greater range of luminosity than that which is possible with photographic techniques. Standard techniques allow differentiation only within a certain range of brightness. Outside this range, no features are visible because in the brighter areas everything appears pure white, and pure black in the darker areas. The ratio between the maximum and the minimum of the tonal value in an image is known as the dynamic range. HDR is useful for recording many real-world scenes containing very bright, direct sunlight to extreme shade, or very faint nebulae. High-dynamic-range (HDR) images are often created by capturing and then combining several different, narrower range, exposures of the same subject matter.
CinePaint is a free and open source computer program for painting and retouching bitmap frames of films. It is a fork of version 1.0.4 of the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP). It enjoyed some success as one of the earliest open source tools developed for feature motion picture visual effects and animation work. The main reason for this adoption over mainline gimp was its support for high bit depths which can be required for film work. The mainline GIMP project later added high bit depths in GIMP 2.9.2, released November 2015. It is free software under the GNU General Public License. In 2018, "CinePaint 2.0 Making Progress" post announced progress, but years later that version isn't out.
Adobe Lightroom is a creative image organization and image manipulation software developed by Adobe Inc. as part of the Creative Cloud subscription family. It is supported on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and tvOS. Its primary uses include importing/saving, viewing, organizing, tagging, editing, and sharing large numbers of digital images. Lightroom's editing functions include white balance, tone, presence, tone curve, HSL, color grading, detail, lens corrections, and calibration manipulation, as well as transformation, spot removal, red eye correction, graduated filters, radial filters, and adjustment brushing.
High dynamic range (HDR) is a dynamic range higher than usual. The term is often used in discussing display devices, photography, 3D rendering, and sound recording including digital imaging and digital audio production. The term may apply to an analog or digitized signal, or to the means of recording, processing, and reproducing such signals.
dcraw is an open-source computer program which is able to read numerous raw image format files, typically produced by mid-range and high-end digital cameras. dcraw converts these images into the standard TIFF and PPM image formats. This conversion is sometimes referred to as developing a raw image since it renders raw image sensor data into a viewable form.

HDR PhotoStudio is a discontinued high dynamic range (HDR) graphics application developed by Unified Color for the Windows and macOS operating systems. In addition to being a HDR-merge application, HDR PhotoStudio offered a set of image editing operations that worked in its dynamic range, human color range (gamut), and in high precision. It also had a Color Integrity feature that enabled preserving an image's color tone during image editing operations — for example changing an image's contrast would not change its chromatic data. This problem is usually referred to as "color shift".
In image processing, computer graphics, and photography, exposure fusion is a technique for blending multiple exposures of the same scene (bracketing) into a single image. As in high dynamic range imaging, the goal is to capture a scene with a higher dynamic range than the camera is capable of capturing with a single exposure.

Affinity Designer is a vector graphics editor developed by Serif for macOS, iPadOS, and Microsoft Windows. It is part of the "Affinity trinity" alongside Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher. Affinity Designer is available for purchase directly from the company website and in the Mac App Store, iOS App Store, and the Microsoft Store.
Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) is a backwards-compatible high dynamic range (HDR) standard that was jointly developed by the BBC and NHK. It provides the ability to encode a wide dynamic range, while still being compatible with the existing transmission standards in the standard dynamic range (SDR) region. This makes HLG compatible with Standard Dynamic Range displays, reducing complexity and cost for both equipment manufacturers and content distributors.
Aurora HDR is photographic software developed by Macphun Software for Mac OS X and Windows. MacPhun changed its name to Skylum in early 2018.

Enblend-Enfuse are open source console application created by Andrew Mihal and mostly maintained by Hugin developers. It consists of Enblend, an image blending tool useful for creating panoramas, and Enfuse, an exposure fusion and focus stacking tool that combines the depth of field and dynamic range from multiple images of the same scene (bracketing). Enblend-enfuse accepts images already aligned by other methods.
