Oba Olusola Idris Osolo ( Otenibotemole II ) (born August 27, 1988) is the 41st Oba of Ado and Olofin Adimula Oodua of Ado-Odo. He ascended to the throne on 9 February 2024, succeeding Oba Abdul-Lateef Adeniran Akanni Ojikutujoye I who was the 40th Olofin Adimula Oodua of Ado-Odo. [1]

Ancestry

Ọba Otenibotemole II was born in to the Osolo family of the Okewaye Ruling House, one of the four ruling house in Ado-Odo. His father, the late Musiliu Olatunji Lamidi, served as an Assistant Commissioner of Police until his passing in April 1998 and was descended from Oba Asade Awope Otenibotemole (1884–1913). [2] His mother, Alhaja Azeezat Omolola Lamidi (Nee Agbogunlori), is a prominent figure, holding the positions of Otun Iyaloja and Otun Iya Adinni of Ado-Odo.

Selection and coronation

In a bid to determine the rightful heir to the revered position of Olofin Adimula Oodua, Olofin Olusola Osolo was nominated among other 14 indigenes from the Okewaye ruling house of Ado-Odo who were also heirs to the throne. The Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in conjunction with the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, orchestrated an election on Friday, February 9, 2024 The election was meticulously conducted in accordance with legal provisions, aimed at ensuring a fair and transparent process [3] [4] .

Among the contestants, he emerged victorious, garnering the majority of votes cast. His win was not just a personal triumph but a testament to his standing within the community and his commitment to upholding traditional values and leadership principles. He received his oath of office on March 30, 2024. [5]

Personal life

He is happily married to Olori Taheebat Omotolani Osolo, and their union is blessed with three children. His commitment to family, education, and professional development exemplifies the well-rounded and accomplished individual that he has become.[ citation needed ]

Additionally, he is recognized as a sports enthusiast, with a particular passion for youth development. He actively participated and was one of the goal scorers at the Ileya football novelty match, tagged "Ado Odo Legends," organized by the youths of Ado Odo in 2023 at the famous football pitch. [6]

Ado-Odo is the metropolitan headquarters of the kingdom of Ado, renowned for its Oduduwa/Obatala temple, the ancient fortress of the traditional practice of Ifá. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Ekiti people</span>

The Ekiti people are one of the largest historical subgroups of the larger Yoruba people of West Africa, located in Nigeria. They are classified as a Central Yoruba group, alongside the Ijesha, Igbomina, Yagba and Ifes. Ekiti State is populated exclusively by Ekiti people; however, it is but a segment of the historic territorial domain of Ekiti-speaking groups, which historically included towns in Ondo State such as Akure, Ilara-Mokin, Ijare, and Igbara-oke. Ilara-Mokin is located in a central part of Ifedore local government of Ondo State, Nigeria. Ilara-Mokin is about 12 km from Ondo state capital, and has Ipogun, Ipinsa, Ikota, Ibule-Soro and Ero as neighbouring towns.

Alara is the royal title of the king of Ilara-Mokin land in Nigeria. The Alara may be addressed as Oba, like rulers in other Yoruba kingdoms, or as His Royal Majesty. Alara is also known to be unquestionable, with an authority that is said to be next to the gods.

Isinkan is a Nigerian traditional state. It is based in a town of the same name in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State. It is contiguous to the Akure Kingdom, and shares such a close proximity to that kingdom that visitors may not know that both are traditionally distinct entities.

He was installed as Oba of Ado & Olofin Adimula Oodua of Ado-Odo on 2 May 2009 holding the reignal name Ojikutujoye Obaarun Oladekan I, succeeding the deceased Oba J. O. Akapo, who died on 7 February 1989.

The Olofin Adimula Oodua of Ado-Odo is the Traditional Ruler and Yoruba king of Ado-Odo; he is also referred to as the Oba of Ado. Ado-Odo is the metropolitan headquarters of the Ado Kingdom in Ogun State, Southwestern Nigeria.
