Druhá Tráva is a Czech bluegrass band originally formed in Czechoslovakia in 1991 by Robert Křesťan and Luboš Malina. As of 2021, they have released thirteen studio albums, four live albums, two compilations, as well as a number of side projects. They have been described as evolving from underground musicians who subverted Communism to international artists who "upend convention".

Kdyby prase mělo křídla is an album for children. It includes songs by Petr Skoumal, based on rhymes by Emanuel Frynta and Pavel Šrut. The album was recorded in the studio of Petr Skoumal in 1990-1991 and produced by Bonton in 1991. A remastered version was released by Supraphon in March 2012.

Abraxas is a Czech rock band formed in 1976 after the breakup of the group Abraam. The band is led by guitarist and composer Slávek Janda, who is the only member to have remained with Abraxas from its formation until the present day.

Kuře v hodinkách is the only studio album by the Czechoslovak fusion band Flamengo. Its title is usually translated to English as "Chicken in the Watch", as depicted on the album cover. The record was released on the Supraphon label in 1972. Poet Josef Kainar wrote most of the lyrics, except for the song "Stále dál", which was penned by producer Hynek Žalčík. The recording was banned by the Communist regime under Normalization, and the band broke up shortly after.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jazz Q</span> Czech jazz fusion band

Jazz Q is a Czech jazz fusion band from Prague. It was established in 1964 in the former Czechoslovakia by musicians Martin Kratochvíl (keyboards) and Jiří Stivín (flute) but didn't gain recognition until the next decade. In 1970, Jazz Q released the jazz-rock album Coniunctio, together with Radim Hladík's Blue Effect. Stivín left the band the same year. Following this, the group took their music in the direction of electric jazz and art rock, with a new lineup that included Luboš Andršt on guitar, Vladimír Padrůněk on bass, and Michal Vrbovec on drums. In 1973, Jazz Q was joined by English blues singer Joan Duggan.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Flamengo (Czech band)</span> Czech rock band

Flamengo was a Czech rock band established in 1966, which, at the peak of its popularity consisted of Vladimír Mišík, Ivan Khunt, Pavel Fořt, Jan Kubík, Vladimír "Guma" Kulhánek, and Jaroslav Erno Šedivý. They only released one studio album, Kuře v hodinkách, which, though banned by the authorities, went on to achieve great success in later years. Flamengo reunited for an anniversary concert in 2012 and were later inducted into the Beatová síň slávy.

Zdeněk Rytíř was a Czech composer, lyricist, multi-instrumentalist, and singer born in Tábor, at the time part of the Nazi-occupied Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. He died of a heart attack at age 69, in Prague.

Ota Petřina was a Czech guitarist and songwriter. During his career, he primarily wrote songs for other artists, including Marta Kubišová, Helena Vondráčková, Václav Neckář, and Petra Janů. He was also the leader of Neckář's band Bacily. He released two solo albums, 1978's Super – robot and 1983's Pečeť.

Shalom was a Czech synth-pop band active from 1992 until 1994. The core of the project consisted of Petr Muk and Petr Kučera, with consistent support from Petr Hons, three musicians who were until 1993 also active in the popular Erasure-influenced band Oceán from České Budějovice. The trio was complemented by a number of rotating female vocalists including Jana Benetová, Jana Feriová, Jana Badurová, and later Jana Petrová, Linda Finková, Michaela Klímková, and Olina Mašková. Shalom released two studio albums and a number of hit singles before breaking up in 1994.

Ladislav Mrkvička was a Czech actor. He starred in the film Atentát and in the television series Thirty Cases of Major Zeman, both under director Jiří Sequens. For his performance in the film Old-Timers, he received the Czech Lion 2019 for Best Supporting Actor.

Citron is a Czech hard rock/heavy metal band founded in Ostrava in 1976. The band's history is divided into two distinct eras: between 1976 and 1981, when their name was spelled with a long "ó", Citrón, and they played mainly blues rock. During this time, the band leader was bassist Petr Michalík. The second era, from 1982 until the present, signalled a change in musical style towards hard rock and heavy metal, with drummer Radim Pařízek as band leader and the group's name slightly altered to Citron. As of 2021, Citron has released twelve studio albums, two EPs, and three official compilation albums.

Törr is a Czech metal band founded in Prague in 1977. They are considered one of the first Czech black metal bands. To date, they have released ten studio albums, two live albums, and two compilations.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mňága a Žďorp</span> Czech rock band

Mňága a Žďorp is a Czech rock band from Valašské Meziříčí. A precursor of the group was formed in 1983 under the name Slepé střevo. The band's lineup has changed frequently over the years and currently consists of Petr Fiala on guitar, Martin Knor on second guitar, Petr Nekuža on bass, Jaromír Mikel on third guitar, Jiří Tibitanzl on saxophone, keyboards, and percussion, and Marcel Gabriel on drums. They became known for their 1991 hit "Hodinový hotel", from their debut album, Made in Valmez. Their latest record, released in 2019, is titled Třecí plochy.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Hudba Praha</span> Czech rock band

Hudba Praha was a Czech rock band formed in 1984 by Michal Ambrož, after his previous band, Jasná Páka, was banned by the Communist government of Czechoslovakia. The group was active until 2015, with a hiatus between 1996 and 1999. In 2015, it splintered into two separate entities, known as Hudba Praha Band and Michal Ambrož a Hudba Praha. The band released five studio albums, one double EP, three live albums, and two compilations. Each splinter group has released one album. Michal Ambrož died in 2022.
