Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi (born 28 March 2003) is an equestrian who represents the United Arab Emirates.

Early life

He was introduced to riding at a young age. His father was a show jumper who went on to train riders. [2]

Career

At the age of 15 years-old he won a silver medal at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina. [3] [4] [5]

At the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, Al Marzouqi won two medals in the show jumping, an individual silver and team bronze. [3] [4] [6]

In May 2024, he won the CSI4* 1.55m Grand Prix title at the Montefalco Championship in Italy, riding Enjoy de la Mure. [7]

In July 2024, he was announced to be the flag carrier for the United Arab Emirates at the 2024 Paris Olympics. [8]

He graduated with a double bachelor’s degree from Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. [3] [4]

The United Arab Emirates participated at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, which were held from 8 to 24 August 2008. The country's participation at the Beijing Olympics marked its seventh appearance in the Summer Olympics since its début at the 1984 Summer Olympics. The delegation sent by the United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee consisted of eight athletes in seven sports: athletics, equestrian, judo, sailing, shooting, swimming and taekwondo. Two of the eight athletes were women, making Beijing the first time the country had sent female athletes to a Summer Olympiad, and most of their athletes qualified for the Games by using a wild card or receiving an invitation from the Tripartite Commission. The country did not win any medals at the Games; the best performance of the delegation was from sport shooter Ahmad Al-Makotum, who placed seventh in the qualification round of the men's double trap and lost a subsequent four-man shoot-out.

Eric Lamaze is a Canadian retired showjumper and Olympic champion. He won individual gold and team silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, riding Hickstead. Lamaze has won three Olympic medals, as well as four Pan American Games medals and one World Equestrian Games bronze. He is considered one of Canada's best showjumpers.

Benjamin Richard Maher MBE is a British show jumper. He represented Britain at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2009 European Championships in Windsor, 2012 London Olympics, 2016 Rio Olympics, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics. He won the team jumping gold at the London Olympics with Team GB, their first team jumping gold medal for 60 years, an individual gold for Great Britain at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and team jumping gold again at the 2024 Paris Summer Games. That win tied him with three-day eventer Richard Meade and dressage rider Charlotte Dujardin as the most successful British Olympic equestrians.

Al Marzooqi Is a family that belongs to the Ajman (tribe) and Al Bagoum (tribe) Which descended from Banu Yam that came from Najran in the Arabian Peninsula. The Al Marzooqi family were very close to the Al Qasimi royal family throughout history where they conjoined in many battles at Maghoh.

Mutaz Essa Barsham is a Qatari track and field athlete who competes in the high jump and is the former Olympic Champion. He is also the former World Champion and second highest jumper of all-time with a personal best of 2.43. He won gold at the 2017 World Championships in London, at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, as well as the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. At the Olympics, Barsham originally won the full set of medals with bronze at the London 2012 Summer Olympics, silver at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, and shared gold at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2021, his bronze in the London 2012 Summer Olympics was promoted to silver in a three-way tie for second due to disqualification of the original gold medalist, leaving him with two silvers and a gold. Daniel Bluman is an Olympic show jumping rider. Born in Colombia, he represents Israel internationally and competed for his country of birth in the past. Bluman qualified to represent Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, but did not compete due to a clerical error in his horse's registration. Bluman is representing Israel at the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Palace of Versailles in individual jumping on 6 August and team jumping.
