The World Boxing Association (WBA), formerly known as the National Boxing Association (NBA), is the oldest and one of four major organizations which sanction professional boxing bouts, alongside the World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). The WBA awards its world championship title at the professional level. Founded in the United States in 1921 by 13 state representatives as the NBA, in 1962 it changed its name in recognition of boxing's growing popularity worldwide and began to gain other nations as members.
Jorge Armando Arce Armenta, best known as Jorge Arce, is a Mexican former professional boxer who competed from 1996 to 2014. He is a multiple-time world champion, and the second boxer from Mexico to win world titles in four weight divisions. In a storied career, Arce held the WBO light flyweight title from 1998 to 1999; the WBC and lineal light flyweight titles from 2002 to 2004; the WBO super flyweight title in 2010; the WBO junior featherweight title in 2011; and the WBO bantamweight title from 2011 to 2012. Additionally he held the WBC interim flyweight title from 2005 to 2006, the WBA interim super flyweight title from 2008 to 2009, and challenged once for the WBC featherweight title in his final fight in 2014.
Silvio Rafael Gámez, better known as Leo Gámez, is a Venezuelan former professional boxer who competed from 1985 to 2005. He is the first boxer in history to win world titles in the four lightest weight divisions, having held the WBA minimumweight title from 1989 to 1990, the WBA light flyweight title from 1993 to 1995, the WBA flyweight title in 1999, and the WBA super flyweight title from 2000 to 2001.
Gilberto Román was a Mexican professional boxer and a member of the 1980 Mexican Olympic team. Román was a two-time WBC and Lineal Super Flyweight Champion and is considered by many fans to be one of the great champions in this division. Gilberto was trained by Boxing Hall of Famer Ignacio Beristáin.
Brian Viloria is a retired American professional boxer of Filipino descent. He is a former unified WBA and WBO flyweight champion, as well as a former WBC and IBF light flyweight champion. Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narváez was a boxing bantamweight championship fight for the WBC and WBO world titles. Donaire made his first and only title defense against junior bantamweight titleholder Omar Narvaez. Shortly after the most significant win of his career, a highlight reel knockout of Mexico's Fernando Montiel, Donaire left Top Rank and signed with rival Golden Boy Promotions. The deal was put on hold when an arbitrator upheld Top Rank's contract and enjoined Golden Boy from promoting Donaire. Eventually, Donaire worked out his differences with Top Rank, which signed him to a contract extension in mid-July.
Juan Francisco Estrada Romero is a Mexican professional boxer. He is a two-weight world champion, having held the WBC super flyweight title since 2022 and The Ring super flyweight title since 2019. He previously held the WBA (Unified) and WBO flyweight titles between 2012 and 2015, and the WBC super flyweight title in March 2021 and the WBA (Super) title from March 2021 to August 2022. He also challenged once for the WBA light flyweight title in 2012. As of July 2023, Estrada is ranked as the world's sixth best active boxer, pound for pound, by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board (TBRB), seventh by The Ring, and tenth by Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA). He is also ranked as the world's best active super flyweight by The Ring and the TBRB and BoxRec.
Ronald Barrera is a Colombian professional boxer who currently fights in the flyweight division and has fought for major world titles five times, losing each attempt.
