John Paizs is a Canadian film director, writer and actor. He is most noted for his debut feature film, Crime Wave, which was presented at the 1985 Toronto International Film Festival. He was the male lead and also wrote and directed the film.

Paddle to the Sea is a 1966 National Film Board of Canada short live-action film directed, shot and edited by Bill Mason. It is based on the 1941 children's book Paddle-to-the-Sea by American author and illustrator Holling C. Holling, and follows the adventures of a child's hand-carved toy Indian in a canoe as it makes its way from Lake Superior to the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, through Canada's waterways. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film at the 40th Academy Awards.
My Winnipeg is a 2007 Canadian film directed and written by Guy Maddin with dialogue by George Toles. Described by Maddin as a "docu-fantasia", that melds "personal history, civic tragedy, and mystical hypothesizing", the film is a surrealist mockumentary about Winnipeg, Maddin's home town. A New York Times article described the film's unconventional take on the documentary style by noting that it "skates along an icy edge between dreams and lucidity, fact and fiction, cinema and psychotherapy".

Lipsett Diaries is a 2010 short animated documentary film about the life and art of collage filmmaker Arthur Lipsett, animated and directed by Theodore Ushev and written by Chris Robinson. The 14-minute film was produced by the National Film Board of Canada in Montreal, where Lipsett had worked from 1958 to 1972, before committing suicide in 1986. The film is narrated by Xavier Dolan.

The Weatherman and the Shadowboxer is a 2014 Canadian short film directed by Randall Okita. Mixing live action with animation, the film depicts two brothers whose shared childhood traumas have led them in very different directions as adults: one, the "weatherman", has become a cautious, careful man who tries to protect himself by obsessively predicting the future, while the other, the "shadowboxer", has become an aggressive, violent man who is constantly fighting the past.

Sofia Bohdanowicz is a Canadian filmmaker. She is known for her collaborations with Deragh Campbell and made her feature film directorial debut in 2016 with Never Eat Alone. Her second feature film, Maison du Bonheur, was a finalist for the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award at the 2018 Toronto Film Critics Association Awards. That year, she won the Jay Scott Prize from the Toronto Film Critics Association. Her third feature film, MS Slavic 7, which she co-directed with Campbell, had its world premiere at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival in 2019. She has also directed several short films, such as Veslemøy's Song (2018) and Point and Line to Plane (2020).
Canada's Top Ten is an annual honour, compiled by the Toronto International Film Festival and announced in December each year to identify and promote the year's best Canadian films. The list was first introduced in 2001 as an initiative to help publicize Canadian films.
The Argument (With Annotations) is a 2017 Canadian-British short experimental drama film written, directed, and edited by video artist Daniel Cockburn. The short's first half attempts to deceive the audience into thinking it is a non-fictional video essay, revealing itself mid-way to be a work of fiction, the essay actually the work of the film's protagonist, an elderly professor (Clare Coulter). Submitted as Cockburn's thesis for the degree of Master of Fine Arts in Film studies at York University, the film had its world premiere at the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival, and has been warmly received by critics.
Farmer's Requiem is a Canadian short documentary film, directed by Ramses Madina and released in 2007. Shot primarily in Prince Edward County and the rural Carp, Woodlawn and Kanata North areas of Ottawa. The film documents rural landscapes and vernacular architecture on the cusp of urban sprawl and transformation. Voiceover by farmer Victor McGregor offers observations and thoughts on the changing times and decline of farming as a way of life. The film was shot on 35mm using a Bell & Howell 2709 film camera. Sound and picture was edited on a Steenbeck flatbed editing machine. The tactile production and post production workflow allowed for the use of vanishing film technologies echoing similar themes explored in the film.

Simo is a 2022 Canadian short drama film, written, directed, and co-edited by Aziz Zoromba. The film stars Basel El Rayes and Seif El Rayes as Simo and Emad, two brothers whose competitive rivalry leads to a dangerous situation when Simo sneakily tries to take over Emad's online gaming channel.
