The OpenDisc project offered a selection of high quality open source software on a disc for Microsoft Windows users. The aims of the project were "to provide a free alternative to costly software, with equal or often better quality equivalents to proprietary, shareware or freeware software for Microsoft Windows", and "to educate users of Linux as an operating system for home, business and educational use". [2]

The project was created in September 2007 by former OpenCD project lead Chris Gray, who cited numerous difficulties [3] which he believed were negatively affecting the progress of the Canonical-sponsored project. As of 27 September 2007, the OpenCD project is no longer under active development (the former OpenCD project was replaced by OpenDisc). [4] The last updates to the OpenDisc project seem to have been in September 2012.

The OpenCD project is a discontinued open-source project aimed to introduce users of Microsoft Windows to the benefits of free and open-source software (FOSS). It is a CD image that can freely be downloaded and copied. The OpenCD team screened programs for stability, quality, and ease of installation, and only distributed programs available under an OSI-approved open-source license, which allows users to freely use and distribute the disc as they wish. It was sponsored by Canonical Ltd., for a period.

Berry Linux is a Live CD Linux distribution that has English and Japanese support. Berry Linux is based on and is compatible with Fedora 39 packages. The distribution is primarily focused on use as a Live CD, but it can also be installed to a live USB drive. Berry Linux can be used to try out and showcase Linux, for educational purposes, or as a rescue system, without the need to make changes to a hard disk. The current version is 1.38 released on 24 November 2023.

WinLibre was a package of free and open source software for Microsoft Windows, in French and English. WinLibre is no longer maintained, as its latest version is 0.3.1 from December 18, 2004. Many of the packages are outdated by several releases.

The Libre Graphics Meeting (LGM) is an annual international convention for the discussion of free and open source software used with graphics; The first Libre Graphics Meeting was held in March 2006. Communities from Inkscape, GIMP, Krita, Scribus, sK1, Blender, Open Clip Art Library, Open Font Library, and more come together through the Create Project to assemble this annual conference. It was co-founded by Dave Neary and Dave Odin.

The Create Project is a web-based community focused on communication and sharing between Free and Open Source Creative applications. Initially the project was created by freedesktop.org as a space for collaboration between free software creative projects, since then the project has become a full sub-project. Create now aims to develop and consolidate shared resources for creative applications. Several community-developed specifications have begun to be developed under the project such as OpenRaster and the Swatches colour file format.

VALO-CD, a distribution of open-source software on a CD for Microsoft Windows, aims to spread knowledge and the use of open-source software.
