Bride and Prejudice is a 2004 romantic drama film directed by Gurinder Chadha, director of Bend it Like Beckham (2002) and other films. The screenplay by Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges is a Bollywood-style adaptation of Jane Austen's 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice. It was filmed primarily in English, with some Hindi and Punjabi dialogue. The film was released in the United Kingdom on 6 October 2004 and in the United States on 11 February 2005. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics.
Mr. & Mrs. '55 is a 1955 Indian romantic comedy film directed and produced by Guru Dutt, from a screenplay written by Abrar Alvi. Yaraana (transl. "Friendship") is a 1995 Bollywood romantic thriller film directed by David Dhawan and starring Madhuri Dixit, Rishi Kapoor, Raj Babbar, Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor. It is loosely based on the American film Sleeping with the Enemy, starring Julia Roberts. The film is known for the hit song "Mera Piya Ghar Aaya".
Aaina (transl. Mirror) is a 1977 Indian Hindi-language drama film written and directed by K. Balachander. A remake of the Tamil film Arangetram (1973), it stars Mumtaz in the lead role and A. K. Hangal, Nirupa Roy, Lalita Pawar, Jayasudha and Madan Puri in supporting roles. This film has a special appearance by Rajesh Khanna. The film is about a Brahmin girl becoming a sex worker to support her mother and siblings. After this film, Mumtaz did not feature in any films for thirteen years, until she made a comeback with Aandhiyan (1990).
Prem Bandhan is a 1979 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Ramanand Sagar. The film stars Rajesh Khanna, Rekha and Moushumi Chatterjee as the lead actors and is supported by A. K. Bhabhi (Sister-in-Law) is a 1938 social family drama Hindi film directed by Franz Osten. The film was based on a Bengali novel written by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay called "Bisher Dhoan". Bandyopadhyay was a famous Bengali novelist and short story writer also known for the fictional detective he created, Byomkesh Bakshi. The cinematographers were Wirsching and Pareenja. Dialogues and lyrics by J. S. Casshyap. V. H. Desai, the comedian, got his "big break" in Bhabhi when he joined Bombay Talkies. He became popular as the nervous father of the heroine Renuka Devi. S. N. Tripathi started his acting with a small role in the film. The film had the new found Renuka Devi in the lead.
