The Orcadian was a named passenger train operating in the United Kingdom. [1] The train was run by LMS.
The service was introduced in April 1936 by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. [2] It was given to the 6.30 am train from Inverness, and the return service from Wick at 3.35 pm.
The train was retained in the era of British Rail and in 1964 [3] offered a journey time of four hours, compared with other services on the line taking five hours.

Montrose railway station serves the town of Montrose in Angus, Scotland. The station overlooks the Montrose Basin and is situated on the Dundee–Aberdeen line, 90 miles (144 km) north of Edinburgh Waverley, between Arbroath and Laurencekirk. There is a crossover at the north end of the station, which can be used to facilitate trains turning back if the line south to Arbroath is blocked.
Dunkeld & Birnam railway station serves the town of Dunkeld and village of Birnam in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. The Waverley, originally called the Thames–Forth Express, is the name of an express passenger train which operated on the Midland Main Line from St Pancras railway station to Edinburgh Waverley and which ceased in 1968.
The Balkan Express was an international overnight passenger train that ran between Istanbul, Turkey and Belgrade, Serbia, via Sofia, Bulgaria. The train began operations in 1991 from Istanbul to Budapest, Hungary, but was cut back to Belgrade after 2000. Service was discontinued in March 2013, when Sirkeci station closed for the construction of the Marmaray commuter rail network. In 2017, the Istanbul-Sofia Express was inaugurated as a successor to the Balkan Express, although the route was shortened to Sofia.
