Oregon Culinary Institute (OCI) was a privately owned, for-profit, accredited trade school located in Portland, Oregon, United States that was part of the Pioneer Pacific College system. It offered programs in culinary arts, baking and pastry, and restaurant management, with a curriculum to prepare graduates for the food-service industry. OCI's campus was located in the Goose Hollow neighborhood of southwest Portland, and included a restaurant staffed by students. [1] Their slogan was "Training Kitchen People".
In 2018, OCI instructor Daniel Brophy was murdered at the Oregon Culinary Institute by his wife.
In 2006, Eric Stromquist and Brian Wilke started Oregon Culinary Institute. [2] The school offered a range of programs from diplomas to a range of different degrees. [3] Stromquist remained president through 2015.
In July 2020, Pioneer Pacific College notified the state agencies that it planned to permanently close the downtown Portland OCI location along with other three art campuses in Portland, Beaverton and Springfield. This was in anticipation of a sharp decline in enrollment due to COVID-19. [4] [5] [6]
OCI's programs were taught in a 10,000 square foot (930 m2) campus that included lecture classrooms and three computer labs. [7] OCI taught and employed sustainable business practices, including partnering with farmers, [8] ranchers, and fishermen to source local ingredients.
As an extension of the culinary arts, baking and pastry, [9] and restaurant management classrooms, OCI had an open-to-the-public restaurant able to accommodate up to 50 guests. Students prepared and served all lunches and dinners. The restaurant was open Monday through Friday, offering a three-course lunch and a four-course dinner. [10]
The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone is a branch campus of the private culinary college the Culinary Institute of America. The Greystone campus, located on State Route 29/128 in St. Helena, California, offers associate degrees and two certificate programs in culinary arts and baking and pastry arts. The CIA at Greystone and the Culinary Institute of America at Copia make up the school's California branch.
The Art Gym was a nonprofit, noncollecting contemporary arts gallery at Marylhurst University in Marylhurst, Oregon, United States. The gallery had been permanently moved to the Portland Art Museum in 2018, as Marylhurst University closed at the end of 2018.
The Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Portland, formerly the Western Culinary Institute (WCI), was a culinary school located in downtown Portland, Oregon, United States. The school was owned by the Career Education Corporation and it was also a partner with the French culinary institute Le Cordon Bleu. The school became affiliated with Le Cordon Bleu in 1999 and changed its name from the Western Culinary Institute in January 2010.

The Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) is a private for-profit culinary school with locations in New York City and Los Angeles, accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). It offers career training, diploma and associate degree programs in the culinary arts both in person and online. Fields of study include culinary arts, pastry and baking arts, plant-based culinary arts, restaurant and culinary management and hospitality management. The school also runs one of the largest hands-on recreational cooking, baking and beverage programs in the United States.

The Parish was a Cajun, Louisiana Creole, and seafood restaurant in Portland, Oregon's Pearl District, in the United States. It was opened by Tobias Hogan and Ethan Powell in 2012, and became known for its oysters. In 2015, the restaurant was split in half, and one side of the space began serving brunch, lunch, and happy hour as the Palmetto Cafe. The Palmetto was converted into a private event space and pop-up restaurant in February 2016, and The Parish closed abruptly in September of that year.
Roman Candle Baking Co., or simply Roman Candle, was a bakery and pizzeria–restaurant in the Richmond neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. Duane Sorenson opened Roman Candle in 2013, with a menu offering wood-fired pizza and other Italian cuisine, including sandwiches, breads, green salads, pastries, and baked potatoes. Dan Griffin and Joshua McFadden served as the baker and chef, respectively. The bakery started supplying select menu items to Sorenson's Stumptown Coffee Roasters locations in late 2015. Roman Candle received a generally positive reception, with the pizzas and kouign-amann receiving the most praise. The restaurant closed in April 2018 for renovations, ahead of a rebrand as a gluten-free and vegan cafe called Holiday, which Sorenson launched one month later.

Masia was a short-lived Spanish and Catalan restaurant in Portland, Oregon, United States. Housed in the Hyatt Centric Downtown Portland, the restaurant was owned by married chefs José Chesa and Cristina Baez and their business partner, Emily Metivier. Shortly after opening with breakfast, lunch, and dinner service in February 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced Masia to close temporarily. The restaurant operated in various forms throughout the remainder of 2020, offering take-out service and special pre-packaged dinners for select holidays. The owners initially planned to close temporarily in January 2021 but confirmed the restaurant's permanent closure in March.

Daniel Craig Brophy was an American chef and culinary instructor who was found murdered at the Oregon Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon. On May 25, 2022, his wife, Nancy Crampton-Brophy, was found guilty of second-degree murder for his death. She was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Annie Moss and Katia Bezerra-Clark owned and operated the business, which shared a space with Handsome Pizza in northeast Portland's Vernon neighborhood starting in 2015. Seastar served breads, cookies, pastries, and toast, among other baked goods. Despite garnering a positive reception and being deemed one of the city's best bakeries by Eater Portland and Portland Monthly, Seastar closed in August 2022.
