Oregon Route 224 is a state highway which runs through some of Portland's southeastern suburbs and ends in the Cascades.
The northwestern terminus is an interchange with OR 99E in Milwaukie, a suburb of Portland. It continues east as the Milwaukie Expressway , but is formally part of the Clackamas Highway No. 171 (see Oregon highways and routes). After crossing Interstate 205 in Clackamas, it becomes the Sunrise Expressway for about two miles. Then, the highway continues east as a four-lane arterial, resuming its designation as the Clackamas Highway, and which it shares with OR 212. East of Clackamas, OR 224 splits off OR 212, and continues south as the Clackamas Highway, passing through hilly farmland. About eight miles (13 km) north of Estacada, it overlaps OR 211. On the eastern edge of Estacada, OR 224 separates from OR 211, and heads southeast into the Mount Hood National Forest, here you are in the mountains heading to the small community of Ripplebrook, its southeastern terminus, where state highway maintenance ends. Drivers may continue along the paved United States Forest Service Road 46 to OR 22 in Detroit, though snow makes the road impassable approximately early November through early May. USFS Road 46 was formerly signed as a portion of OR 224,[ citation needed ] but was never a state-maintained highway.
This is the second route in Oregon with the designation 224. There was an earlier version of OR 224 connecting US 99W (modern Oregon Route 99W) 3 miles (5 km) south of Monmouth to Oregon Route 223 near Lewisville following today's Elkins Rd. In those days, Oregon Route 223 followed today's Airlie Rd and Maple Grove Rd between Falls City and Pedee). This incarnation of OR 224 existed from the inception of the Oregon Route System in 1932 until sometime between 1942 and 1944.
The Clackamas Highway was realigned onto a section of I-205 in 1971. [1]
The easternmost 19 miles (31 km) of OR 224 in Mount Hood National Forest was closed to traffic during the 2020 Labor Day wildfires, which damaged pavement, guardrails, and nearby trees. [2] [3] It is reopened to traffic on May 1, 2022, 19 months after its closure. [4]
The Sunrise Expressway (known as Sunrise Corridor during construction) is a limited-access highway in Clackamas. It serves as an extension of the Milwaukie Expressway portion of OR 224. Planning for the expressway started in the 1980s. Plans weren't approved until 2010, with construction starting in 2013. Costing $130 million, the expressway opened on July 1, 2016. A multi-use path for use by bicyclists and pedestrians was constructed along the highway. It is the newest highway constructed in the Portland metropolitan area since OR 213 bypassed Oregon City in 1989. [5]

Oregon Route 10 is an Oregon state highway which serves Portland and some of its western suburbs.
Oregon Route 212 is an Oregon state highway that serves the eastern Portland metro area. It is an east–west route, running between Boring and Clackamas.
Oregon Route 213 is an Oregon state highway that serves the eastern Willamette Valley between Portland and Salem. It is a north–south route. The route is known as the Cascade Highway, though specific segments are generally better known by more localized names.
Oregon Route 18 is a state highway that runs between the Oregon Coast, near Lincoln City and Newberg. OR 18 traverses the Salmon River Highway No. 39 of the Oregon state highway system, named after the river alongside its westernmost segments.
Oregon Route 47 is an Oregon state highway that runs between the Willamette Valley, near McMinnville, and the city of Clatskanie, along the Columbia River in the northwest part of the state. OR 47 traverses several highways of the Oregon state highway system: part of the Tualatin Valley Highway No. 29, part of the Nehalem Highway No. 102, part of the Sunset Highway No. 47, and the Mist–Clatskanie Highway No. 110.
Oregon Route 6 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Oregon that runs between the city of Tillamook on the Oregon Coast, to the Willamette Valley, near Banks. OR 6 traverses the Wilson River Highway No. 37 of the Oregon state highway system, named after the river paralleling the highway's western segment.
Oregon Route 35 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Oregon, running between Government Camp on the slopes of Mount Hood and the city of Hood River. OR 35 traverses part of the Mt. Hood Highway No. 26 and part of the Historic Columbia River Highway No. 100 of the Oregon state highway system. Along the Historic Columbia River Highway in Hood River, the route is silently concurrent with U.S. Route 30.
Oregon Route 22 is an Oregon state highway that runs between the Oregon Coast community of Hebo, to an interchange with U.S. Route 20 near Santiam Pass in the Cascade Mountains. OR 22 traverses several highways of the Oregon state highway system: the Three Rivers Highway No. 32, part of the Salmon River Highway No. 39, the Willamina–Salem Highway No. 30, part of the Salem Highway No. 72, and the North Santiam Highway No. 162.
Oregon Route 34 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Oregon that runs between the city of Waldport on the Oregon Coast and the city of Lebanon in the western part of the state. OR 34 traverses the Alsea Highway No. 27 from Waldport to Flynn, part of the Corvallis–Newport Highway No. 33 from Flynn to east of Corvallis, and the Corvallis–Lebanon Highway No. 210 from east of Corvallis to Lebanon, of the Oregon state highway system. In Corvallis, OR 34 includes a brief concurrency with U.S. Route 20 and OR 99W over the Pacific Highway West No. 1W.
Oregon Route 42 (OR 42) is an Oregon state highway which runs between U.S. Route 101 on the Oregon Coast, near Coos Bay, and Green, a few miles south of Roseburg on Interstate 5. OR 42 traverses the Coos Bay–Roseburg Highway No. 35 of the Oregon state highway system. The route splits at Coquille, where Oregon Route 42S heads southwest toward Bandon.
Oregon Route 3 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is located entirely within Wallowa County. OR 3 is the lowest numbered highway in the state of Oregon, of any type. OR 3 traverses the Enterprise–Lewiston Highway No. 11 of the Oregon state highway system.
Oregon Route 7 is an Oregon state highway which runs from Interstate 84 at Baker City to U.S. Route 26 at Austin Junction. OR 7 traverses several highways of the Oregon state highway system: Whitney Highway No. 71, part of the La Grande–Baker Highway No. 66, and part of the Baker–Copperfield Highway No 12. A short spur, Oregon Route 410, serves the city of Sumpter.
Oregon Route 11 is an Oregon state highway that runs between the city of Pendleton in eastern Oregon, to the Washington border south of Walla Walla, Washington. OR 11 traverses the Oregon–Washington Highway No. 8 of the Oregon state highway system, even though there are numerous other highways crossing the Oregon–Washington border. The route shares a concurrency with U.S. Route 30 along the Pendleton Highway No. 67. It is one of several Oregon state highways to terminate at one of Oregon's borders.
Oregon Route 31 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Oregon that runs between the Central Oregon cities of La Pine and Lakeview. OR 31 traverses most of the Fremont Highway No. 19 of the Oregon state highway system, named after John C. Frémont. The entire length of OR 31 is part of the Outback Scenic Byway, though the byway extends further south beyond the end of OR 31, to the California border.
Oregon Route 36 is an Oregon state highway that runs between the city of Mapleton in the Oregon Coast Range, and the city of Junction City in the Willamette Valley. OR 36 traverses the Mapleton–Junction City Highway No. 229 of the Oregon state highway system. The entire route of the highway is located within Lane County.
Oregon Route 51 is an Oregon state highway running between Monmouth, Oregon and an intersection with Oregon Route 22 west of Salem. OR 51 traverses several highways of the Oregon state highway system: the Monmouth–Independence Highway No. 43 and the Independence Highway No. 193. The route lies completely within Polk County. The Independence Highway previously continued south to US 20.
Oregon Route 204 is an Oregon state highway running from OR 11 in Weston to OR 82 in Elgin. OR 204 is known as the Weston-Elgin Highway No. 330. It is 41.89 miles (67.42 km) long and runs east–west.
Oregon Route 244 is an Oregon state highway running from Ukiah in Umatilla County to Hilgard in Union County. OR 244 is known as the Ukiah-Hilgard Highway No. 341. It is 47.22 miles (75.99 km) long and runs east–west.
Oregon Route 255 is an Oregon state highway running from U.S. Route 101 near Gold Beach to US 101 near Brookings. OR 255 is known as the Carpenterville Highway No. 255. It is 27.60 miles (44.42 km) long and runs north–south, entirely within Curry County.
U.S. Route 20 (US 20) is a major west–east cross-state highway in the northern part of the U.S. state of Oregon, especially east of the Cascade Mountains. It connects U.S. Route 101 in Newport on the central Oregon Coast to the Idaho state line east of Nyssa.
