Orkan Telhan

Orkan Telhan (born 1976 in Oberhausen, West Germany) is the Chief Information and Data Officer at Ecovative and the board president of Biodesign Challenge. Telhan was Associate Professor of Fine Arts, Emerging Design Practices in the School of Design at The University of Pennsylvania.

Telhan holds a PhD in Design and Computation [1] from MIT's Department of Architecture. He was part of the Sociable Media Group [2] at the MIT Media Laboratory and a researcher at the MIT Design Laboratory. [3] He studied Media Arts [4] at the University at Buffalo and theories of media and representation, visual studies and Graphic Design [5] at Bilkent University.

His individual and collaborative work has been exhibited internationally in venues including the Istanbul Biennial (2013, [6] 2023 [7] ), Istanbul Design Biennial (2012 [8] 2016 [9] ), Milano Design Week, [10] Vienna Design Week, the Armory Show 2015 Special Projects, [11] Ars Electronica, [12] ISEA, LABoral, ArchiLab, Architectural Association, The Architectural League of New York, MIT Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, [13] the New Museum of Contemporary Art [14] New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, [15] the Walker Art Center, [16] and the Design Museum, [17] London.

In 2016, Telhan's design monograph "Designature: The Nature of Signatures in Art and Design [18] " was published from Revolver Publishing, Berlin.

Telhan was a co-founder of Biorealize Inc., [19] a biotech company specialized in making next generation tools to make it easier to design with biology.

Haluk Akakçe is a contemporary artist living and working in New York and Istanbul whose work explores the intersections between society and technology through video animations, wall paintings and sound installations. He trained in architecture at Bilkent University, Ankara, then graduated with an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Akakçe's work has appeared in the Istanbul and São Paulo Biennials, the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and the Walker Art Center. Among his numerous solo shows, Akakçe has exhibited at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York and the Berlin KunstWerke. He was shortlisted for the Beck's Futures award at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London in 2004.

Xurban collective was an international art collective founded in 2000. Core members of the group are Guven Incirlioglu and Hakan Topal, whose transatlantic collaborations took the form of media projects and installations. xurban_collective's projects instigate the questioning, examination, and discussion of contemporary politics, theory, and ideology, utilizing documentary photography, video, new media and text. The collective focuses specifically on areas of regional conflicts, military spatial confinement, urban segregation and neoliberal exclusion strategies. In September 2012 xurban_collective members concluded their collaboration to focus on their personal projects, artistic research and production.

Using personal and historical narratives, Karamustafa explores socio-political issues in modern Turkey and addresses themes including sexuality-gender, exile-ethnicity, and displacement-migration. "Hailed as one of Turkey’s most influential contemporary artists," her work reflects on the traumatic effects of nation building, as it responds to the processes of modernization, political turbulence, and civil rights in a period that includes the military coups of 1960, 1971, and 1980.
