Orkan Telhan

Orkan Telhan (born 1976 in Oberhausen, West Germany) is the Chief Information and Data Officer at Ecovative and the board president of Biodesign Challenge. Telhan was Associate Professor of Fine Arts, Emerging Design Practices in the School of Design at The University of Pennsylvania.

Telhan holds a PhD in Design and Computation [1] from MIT's Department of Architecture. He was part of the Sociable Media Group [2] at the MIT Media Laboratory and a researcher at the MIT Design Laboratory. [3] He studied Media Arts [4] at the University at Buffalo and theories of media and representation, visual studies and Graphic Design [5] at Bilkent University.

His individual and collaborative work has been exhibited internationally in venues including the Istanbul Biennial (2013, [6] 2023 [7] ), Istanbul Design Biennial (2012 [8] 2016 [9] 2020 [10] ), Milano Design Week, [11] Vienna Design Week, [12] the Armory Show 2015 Special Projects, [13] Ars Electronica, [14] ISEA, LABoral, [15] ArchiLab, Architectural Association, The Architectural League of New York, MIT Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, [16] the New Museum of Contemporary Art [17] New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, [18] the Walker Art Center, [19] Design Museum, [20] London, and Museo Reina Sofia. [21]

In 2016, Telhan's design monograph "Designature: The Nature of Signatures in Art and Design [22] " was published from Revolver Publishing, Berlin.

Telhan was a co-founder of Biorealize Inc., [23] a biotech company specialized in making next generation tools to make it easier to design with biology.

Xurban collective was an international art collective founded in 2000. Core members of the group are Guven Incirlioglu and Hakan Topal, whose transatlantic collaborations took the form of media projects and installations. xurban_collective's projects instigate the questioning, examination, and discussion of contemporary politics, theory, and ideology, utilizing documentary photography, video, new media and text. The collective focuses specifically on areas of regional conflicts, military spatial confinement, urban segregation and neoliberal exclusion strategies. In September 2012 xurban_collective members concluded their collaboration to focus on their personal projects, artistic research and production.

Antonio Cosentino is a Turkish contemporary artist of Italian origin living and working in Istanbul. Primarily a painter, Cosentino's work also encompasses sculpture, installation, writing and photography.

Cevdet Erek is a Turkish visual artist and musician living and working in Istanbul, Turkey. He is known for combining sound, rhythm and architecture to create installations, videos, objects and performances characterized by site specificity. Cevdet Erek was the recipient of the Nam Jun Paik Award in 2012 and represented Turkey at the 57th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia in 2017.

Defne Ayas is a curator, lecturer, and editor in the field of contemporary art and its institutions. Ayas directed, cofounded, curated, and advised several art institutes, initiatives, and exhibition platforms across the globe, including in the United States, Netherlands, China and Hong Kong, South Korea, Russia, Lithuania, and Italy. Emre Hüner is a visual artist living and working between Istanbul, Turkey and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Working with drawing, film, sculpture, installation and writing, his work explores the construction of modernist utopian projects, setting the idea of progress against deep time, geology and archeology through eclectic assemblages that blend fiction and documentarian approaches using archives, found objects and narratives.
