Ossian C. Bird Arena is an ice arena and recreational sport facility located in Athens, Ohio and owned and operated by Ohio University. The arena serves as the home for Ohio University ACHA Men's college ice hockey teams that compete in the American Collegiate Hockey Association at the Division I level as a member of the Central States Collegiate Hockey League and at the Division II level as a member of the Tri-State Collegiate Hockey League. The Division II team won the 2018 TSCHL Tournament Championship. Bird Arena is also home to the Ohio University Synchronized Skating Team who compete in the Open Collegiate division of synchronized skating.

The Bird Arena features a 190′ × 85′ ice sheet for ice hockey, figure skating and open skating, and local high school hockey.

History

Bird Arena is named in honor of Ossian Clinton Bird. Bird began at OU as the freshman football coach at Ohio University from 1917 to 1920; he also taught physical education. Over his years at OU Bird's positions included director of physical education and director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

The Arena was constructed in 1957 and was named in honor of Mr. O.C. Bird in 1960.

The Arena underwent major renovations from 2000 to 2001 that added a seamless Crystaplex dasher board system, four new locker rooms, insulation upgrades, new bleachers, thermal windows, enlarged concession stand, and pro shop. The arena has a 2000-seat seating capacity. [1]

The Edge Ice Arena includes The Edge on John Street, The Water's Edge Aquatic Center, and The Edge II Ice Arena a 3,000-seat multi-purpose arena located in Bensenville, Illinois. It had been used as the official training facility and practice arena for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League before the team built a new downtown Chicago training facility. Harry W. Lawson Ice Arena and Gabel Natatorium is a 3,667-seat multi-purpose arena, and adjacent natatorium in Kalamazoo, Michigan, located on the far Southwest corner of Western Michigan University's main campus. The arena is a single-level, horseshoe-style arena with a concourse at the top. It is home to the Western Michigan Broncos men's ice hockey team, the WMU men's ice hockey club team, and the WMU synchronized skating club team. The arena is named after Harry W. Lawson, the founder of the hockey program at Western Michigan University. The Gabel Natatorium contains an olympic size swimming pool, diving facility, and is home to the WMU Swimming and Diving Club team.

The KSU Ice Arena is a two-rink ice complex located on the campus of Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, United States. The building contains two ice rinks, one with seating for 1,500 fans that is used for ice hockey and figure skating, with the other used for general skating. The two rinks are connected by a large lobby and snack bar. The facility also includes a meeting room and a skate-sharpening service. The building was built in 1970 and underwent a major renovation project in 2006–2007 which included seating and locker room upgrades in the main arena.

Ames/ISU Ice Arena is an ice arena and recreational sport facility located in Ames, Iowa and owned and operated by Ames Parks & Rec Department and Iowa State University. The Ames / ISU Ice Arena is home to the Iowa State University Cyclones Men’s and Women's Hockey Teams, ISU Synchronized Skating Team. The ISU Men's Hockey Team competes at the ACHA Division I level in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League, in addition an auxiliary team competes at the ACHA D II level as members of the North Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Deborah. F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall is a 2,500-seat multi-purpose ice arena located in Oswego, New York on the campus of SUNY Oswego. The arena is also the home to the Oswego Lakers Men's and Women's ice hockey teams competing at the NCAA Division III level in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). As well as a men's club team competing at the ACHA Division I level in the Northeast Collegiate Hockey League, SUNY Oswego Figure Skating Club, and student recreation, intramural hockey, and broomball, and the synchronized skating team. The Arena also serves as a home for SUNY Oswego's convocation events. In addition to the college athletics and other events the Deborah. F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall is also the home to local community organizations such as the Oswego Figure Skating Club, and the Oswego High School boys' hockey team as well as recreational ice skating and figure skating.

The Fred Rust Ice Arena or University of Delaware Ice Arena multi-purpose arena located on the campus of The University of Delaware located in Newark, Delaware. The Facility houses two ice sheets. The first sheet is located in the Fred Rust Arena and the second sheet is located in the Gold Arena which is a separate building. The Fred Rust Ice Arena, is a 2,500-seat regulation Olympic-sized ice arena on the UD campus. The Fred Rust Ice Arena, originally named The Blue Arena, was built in 1988 and houses the Olympic-sized ice area, a VIP lounge, a pro shop, locker rooms, weight and fitness facility, ballet room, off-ice spinner and a concession area. The Gold Arena is the NHL-sized ice sheet and was constructed in 1971. The Gold arena sits adjacent to the Fred Rust on the UD campus.

The Penn State Ice Pavilion was a 1,350-seat ice arena on the campus of The Pennsylvania State University located in University Park, Pennsylvania, United States. The ice arena included an NHL regulation sized 200' x 85' ice sheet as well as a 45' x 55' studio ice sheet.

The Bradford R. Boss Arena is a 2,500-seat ice arena on the campus of The University of Rhode Island located in Kingston, Rhode Island. The ice arena is named in honor of Bradford R. Boss, one of the founders of the URI men's hockey club in 1951, member of the URI class of 1955, and member of URI Athletic Hall of Fame.

The LaHaye Ice Center is a 4,000-seat ice arena located in Lynchburg, Virginia on the campus of Liberty University. The ice arena is also the home to the Liberty Flames men's and women's ice hockey teams that currently compete in the American Collegiate Hockey Association as independent teams in the ACHA Division I. In addition to LU's varsity teams, the Liberty JV team, Virginia Military Institute, and Lynchburg College teams at the ACHA Division II level playing in the Blue Ridge Hockey Conference also use the arena. And for LU's synchronized skating team. The ice arena is also used for various recreational uses by students and local public for ice skating, figure skating, ice hockey, and broomball.

The University of Wisconsin–River Falls Falcons compete as members of the NCAA Division III. The athletic program has men's teams in football, basketball, ice hockey, indoor and outdoor track and field, and cross country. There are women's teams in basketball, ice hockey, indoor and outdoor track and field, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball. The University recently announced it would add the sport of women's lacrosse to begin play during the 2018-2019 academic year. The Falcons on-campus facilities include the Falcon Center, which includes Hunt Arena and Page Arena, Ramer Field, and a new complex for both softball and women's soccer. They compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in all sports. The athletic director is Crystal Lanning. The Falcons team colors are red and white, and the team mascot is named "Freddy Falcon."
