Oumar Ngom (born 9 March 2004) is a professional footballer who plays for Ligue 2 club Pau FC. [1] Born in France, he plays for the Mauritania national team.

Club career

Having grown up between Tillou and Chef-Boutonne, Oumar Ngom went through the youth ranks of the Niort, starting to play with the reserve team in National 3 during the 2021–22 season. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

First appearing in the main team squad in early 2022, [6] [7] he made his professional debut for Niort on 5 March 2022, replacing Nacim El Hassani at the 61st minute of a 0–1 Ligue 2 home loss to AC Ajaccio. [8]

Pau FC

On 9 July 2023, Ngom signed his first professional contract with Pau FC. [9]

International career

Of Senegalese and Mauritanian descent—his father, Cheikh Ngom, was a Mauritania international in the '80s [10] —, he became a youth international for his father's country, playing the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations qualification in 2021 and scoring a goal despite his team failing to reach the final tournament. The 2011–12 season is the 86th campaign in the history of the French association football club Chamois Niortais. It is their second consecutive season in the Championnat National, the third tier of French football, after an 11th-place finish in 2010–11. Former Niort midfielder Pascal Gastien remained as manager, having been appointed to the position in 2009. Niort finished as runners-up in the Championnat National, thereby earning promotion to Ligue 2 for the 2012–13 season after a four-year absence from the second tier of French football.

The 2012–13 season was the 87th season in the history of the French football club Chamois Niortais. The 2020–21 Ligue 2 season, also known as Ligue 2 BKT for sponsorship reasons, was the 82nd season of second-division football in France, and the 19th season since the division was rebranded as Ligue 2 from Division 2. Due to the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the announcement of the start and end dates for the season was delayed. There were suggestions that the season would feature just 18 teams, as opposed to the usual 20, after France's highest administrative court overturned the relegations of Amiens and Toulouse from Ligue 1; however, the relegations were reinstated by the General Assembly of the LFP with a vote on 23 June 2020. The league fixtures were announced on 9 July 2020 and the league season began on 22 August 2020 and ended on 15 May 2021.

The 2020–21 Chamois Niortais F.C. season was the club's 96th season in existence and its seventh consecutive season in the second flight of French football. In addition to the domestic league, Niort participated in this season's edition of the Coupe de France. The season covered the period from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021.

The 2022–23 Ligue 2, commonly known as 2022–23 Ligue 2 BKT for sponsorship reasons, was the 84th season of Ligue 2. It began on 30 July 2022 and ended on 5 June 2023. The league had a break from 12 November to 27 December due to the FIFA World Cup. Two clubs were to be promoted to Ligue 1 at the end of the season as the number of clubs in Ligue 1 was set to be reduced from 20 to 18 for the 2023–24 season. As a result, there were no play-offs held after the end of the regular season.
