Ebonyi State is a state in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered to the north and northeast by Benue State, Enugu State to the west, Cross River State to the east and southeast, and Abia State to the southwest. Named for the Abonyi (Aboine) River—a large part of which is in the state's south—Ebonyi State was formed from parts of Abia and Enugu state in 1996 and has its capital as Abakaliki.
The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) is a university in Nigeria that was founded as Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH) on 30 July 1980, by the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo. Osinakachukwu Ideozu is a Nigerian businessman and People's Democratic Party politician. He is currently a member of the Senate of Nigeria representing the Rivers West senatorial district. Ideozu was a member and Minority Whip of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003 where he represented Ahoada East I and was subsequently elected into the Nigerian House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007 where he represented Abua-Odual/Ahoada East Federal Constituency. Ideozu was appointed the Honourable Commissioner of Finance in October 2007 by the then Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, a position he held till June 2009 when the cabinet was dissolved.
David Nweze Umahi is a Nigerian politician who serves as the minister of works of Nigeria. He previously served as the senator representing Ebonyi South senatorial district from June to August 2023, and as the governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023; and deputy governor from 2011 to 2015.

The 2023 Abia State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Abia State, concurrent with elections to the Abia State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP governor Okezie Ikpeazu was term-limited and could not seek a third term. Alex Otti, a banker, gained the office for the Labour Party by a margin of victory over first runner-up and PDP nominee—Okey Ahiwe, the former Chief of Staff to Ikpeazu.
The 2023 Enugu State gubernatorial election took place on 18th March 2023, to elect the Governor of Enugu State, with Peter Mbah declared winner alongside his running mate Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai of the Peoples Democratic Party (Nigeria), after they got the plurality of votes and won over 25% of the votes in two-third of the state. Mr Mbah polled 160,895 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the Labour Party (Nigeria) candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, who scored 157,552 votes. The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Frank Nweke Jr, garnered 17,983 votes to come a distant third, while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Uche Nnaji, placed fourth, with 14,575 votes. The election was contested in the Tribunal by Chijoike Edeoga but the tribunal eventually upheld the victory of Peter Mbah.
The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections were held on 25 February 2023 in all 109 senatorial districts where voters elected senators using first-past-the-post voting. The last regular senatorial elections for all districts were in 2019.

Dozie Ferdinand Nwankwo is a Nigerian politician who represented Njikoka/ Anaocha and Dunukofia Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives. He is a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He won the primary election under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Anambra Central Senatorial District for the 2023 Senatorial election. However, he lost the senatorial seat to Labour Party (LP) candidate.
Senator Kelvin Chukwu is a Nigerian politician of the Labour Party and Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District. The Labour Party nominated him as a replacement to his elder brother Oyibo Chukwu who was assassinated along Amechi town, three days before the 25 February presidential and National Assembly elections.
Senator (Dr) Victor C. Umeh, OFR is a Nigerian politician who served as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and now Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the ticket of the Labour Party. Umeh hails from Aguluzigbo, a town in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
