Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele is an academic and is the former Vice chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education after being appointed by the governor of Rivers State,Nyesom Wike on 23 November 2016. [1]
Ndimele was born 13 August 1963 at Akirika,Etche Local Government Area in Rivers State in Nigeria. [2] He had his secondary education at St. Joseph's Secondary School. He obtained a bachelor's degree at University of Port Harcourt and earned his PhD in comparative syntax in 1991 at the same institution. [3]
He served as acting head of the Department for Linguistic and Communication Studies from 1998 to 2005. He became a professor in Comparative Grammar and Communication at the University of Port Harcourt in 2006,and has also served as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities (2010–2014) at the University of Port Harcourt. [3]
He has written journals and over 30 books. The books he wrote includes;The Principles &Parameters of Universal Grammar,An Advanced English Grammar &Usage,Semantics and the Frontiers of Communication,Morphology &Syntax,Readings on Language,A Concise Grammar and Lexicon of Echie,Four Decades in the Study of Languages &Linguistics in Nigeria,In the Linguistic Paradise,Languages and Cultures in Nigeria,ICT,Globalization &the Study of Languages in Africa.
Ndimele was the national president of Linguistic Association of Nigeria (2003-2009) and the current substantive president of the English Language Association of Nigeria. He was a member of the Rivers State scholarship board,Transition committee of administration.
He is married to Mrs. Joy Adanma Ndimele and has a son and three daughters. [3]
Kay Williamson,born Ruth Margaret Williamson,was a linguist who specialised in the study of African languages,particularly those of the Niger Delta in Nigeria,where she lived for nearly fifty years. She has been called "The Mother of Nigerian Linguistics" and is also notable for proposing the Pan-Nigerian alphabet.
E. Nolue Emenanjo was a Nigerian academic scholar,professor,writer and critic who is regarded as a central figure of Igbo literature. His book,A Grammar of Contemporary Igbo:Constituents,Features and Processes (2015),strongly added input to research of Igbo literature and culture. Along with his publications,his Igbo Language and Culture (1975) and Elements of Modern Igbo Grammar (1978). Later books include Auxiliaries in Igbo Syntax (1985) and Multilingualism,Minority Languages,and Language Policy in Nigeria (1990). In the 21st century,Emenanjo is often referred to as the "father of Igbo literature",alongside Tony Ubesie and others.
Odual is a poorly studied Central Delta language spoken by the Odual community in the Abua–Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State and Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State,Nigeria.
The University of Port Harcourt is a public research university located in Aluu and Choba,Port Harcourt,Rivers State,Nigeria. It was established in 1975 as University College,Port Harcourt and was given university status in 1977. The University of Port Harcourt was ranked the sixth in Africa and the first in Nigeria by Times Higher Education in 2015. In July 2021,Owunari Georgewill was appointed substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university.
Kalabari is an Ijo language of Nigeria spoken in Rivers State and Bayelsa State by the Awome people. Its three dialects are mutually intelligible. The Kalabari dialect is one of the best-documented varieties of Ijo,and as such is frequently used as the prime example of Ijo in linguistic literature.
Eleme is a language spoken by Eleme people in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. Eleme is a Niger-Congo language spoken by approximately 40-50,000 speakers in Rivers State in southeast Nigeria. It belongs to the Ogonoid language group,within the Cross River branch of Benue-Congo. Eleme language was originally divided into two mutual dialects of Nchia and Odido. Nchia spoken in six communities of Agbonchia,Akpajo,Alesa,Aleto,Alode and Ogale,while Odido dialect was spoken at Ebubu,Ekporo,Eteo and Onne,today,both dialects have submerged,with a few varying pronunciations.
Obolo is a major Cross River language of Nigeria. Obolo is the indigenous name of a community in the eastern Delta of the River Niger,better known as Andoni. Obolo refers to the people,the language as well as the land. It is an agglutinative,an SVO and a tonal language.

Government Comprehensive Secondary School (GCSS) is the premier comprehensive secondary school in Nigeria. It is located in the Borokiri neighbourhood of Port Harcourt,the capital of Rivers State,Nigeria. The school was established through the collaboration of the United States Government of John F. Kennedy represented by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID),the University of California,Los Angeles (UCLA) and the then government of Eastern Region,Nigeria in 1962. Its foundation teaching staff were professors of the University of California,Los Angeles,led by Professor Lynne C. Monroe. Monroe was principal of the school from inception until June 1964 when he returned to UCLA.

Oladele Awobuluyi is a Nigerian linguist,professor,and author. He was born in Okeagbe,Akoko North-West in Ondo State,Nigeria. Awobuluyi's area of research focus is African languages,in particular Yoruba,as well as Kanuri and Edo. Awobuluyi founded the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages at the University of Ilorin in 1976,and served as the department's first head from 1979 until September 1984. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters.

Imelda Icheji Lawrence Udoh is a Professor of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages of the Faculty of Arts,University of Uyo,Nigeria. She serves as the President of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (LAN). She is also a life member and Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters. She is a DAAD alumnus and has served as Head of Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages from 2010 to 2014,as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 2010 to 2013,and Deputy Director,School of Continuing Education (2015–2016) of the University. She noted in her research that "Nigerian local languages seem to appear dying in particular areas,but still flourishing in others". Udoh advocated for the protection of these indigenous languages while delivering the 81st Inaugural Lecture of the University of Uyo. Udoh is also a Member of Council of the West African Linguistic Society. A festschrift was organized in her honour in 2019.
