Phuntsog Namgyal (17 December 1937 - 1 June 2020) was an Indian politician,agriculturist and social worker.
He served as Member- of Parliament for Ladakh from 1980 till 1989 and also from 1996 to 1998.
He also served the Pradesh Congress Committee in the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir (state) as secretary-general and vice president. [1]
He died on 1 June 2020 from COVID-19,during the COVID-19 pandemic in India,at the age of 83 [2] [3] [4]
Ladakh is a region administered by India as a union territory and constitutes an eastern portion of the larger Kashmir region that has been the subject of a dispute between India and Pakistan since 1947 and India and China since 1959. Ladakh is bordered by the Tibet Autonomous Region to the east,the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh to the south,both the Indian-administered union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Pakistan-administered Gilgit-Baltistan to the west,and the southwest corner of Xinjiang across the Karakoram Pass in the far north. It extends from the Siachen Glacier in the Karakoram range to the north to the main Great Himalayas to the south. The eastern end,consisting of the uninhabited Aksai Chin plains,is claimed by the Indian Government as part of Ladakh,but has been under Chinese control.
Leh is a city in Ladakh in the disputed Kashmir region. It is the largest city and the joint capital of Ladakh. Leh,located in the Leh district,was also the historical capital of the Kingdom of Ladakh. The seat of the kingdom,Leh Palace,the former residence of the royal family of Ladakh,was built in the same style and about the same time as the Potala Palace in Tibet. Since they were both constructed in a similar style and at roughly the same time,the Potala Palace in Tibet and Leh Palace,the royal residence,are frequently contrasted. Leh is at an altitude of 3,524 m (11,562 ft),and is connected via National Highway 1 to Srinagar in the southwest and to Manali in the south via the Leh-Manali Highway.
Pranab Mukherjee was an Indian politician who served as the 13th president of India from 2012 until 2017. He was the first person from West Bengal to hold the post of President of India. In a political career spanning five decades,Mukherjee was a senior leader in the Indian National Congress and occupied several ministerial portfolios in the Government of India. Kargil district is a district in Indian-administered Ladakh in the disputed Kashmir-region. It is one of the two districts comprising the Indian-administered union territory of Ladakh. The district headquarters are in the city of Kargil. The district is bounded by the Indian-administered union territory of Jammu and Kashmir to the west,the Pakistani-administered administrative territory of Gilgit–Baltistan to the north,Ladakh's Leh district to the east,and the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh to the south. Encompassing three historical regions known as Purig,Dras and Zanskar,the district lies to the northeast of the Great Himalayas and encompasses the majority of the Zanskar Range. The Chogyal were the monarchs of the former Kingdom of Sikkim,which belonged to the Namgyal dynasty. The Chogyal was the absolute monarch of Sikkim from 1642 to 1973,and the constitutional monarch from 1973 to 1975,when the monarchy was abolished and the Sikkimese people voted in a referendum to make Sikkim the 22nd state of India.
Chaudhary Ajit Singh was an Indian farmer leader and politician. He was the founder and chief of the Rashtriya Lok Dal,a political party recognised in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He was son of the former Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh. He tested positive for COVID-19 and was subsequently admitted to a hospital in Gurugram. He died on 6 May 2021 after his condition deteriorated.

The Namgyal dynasty was a dynasty whose rulers were the monarchs of the former kingdom of Ladakh that lasted from 1460 to 1842 and were titled the Gyalpo of Ladakh. The Namgyal dynasty succeeded the first dynasty of Maryul and had several conflicts with the neighboring Mughal Empire and various dynasties of Tibet,including the Tibet–Ladakh–Mughal War. The dynasty eventually fell to the Sikh Empire and Dogras of Jammu. Most of its known history is written in the Ladakh Chronicles.
Hanle is a large historic village in the Indian union territory of Ladakh. The revenue village of Hanle comprises six hamlets —Bhok,Dhado,Punguk,Khuldo,Naga and Tibetan Refugee habitation —within 1073 sq km Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary in Changthang plateau. It is the site of the 17th-century Hanle Monastery (gompa) of the Drukpa Kagyu branch of Tibetan Buddhism. Hanle is located in the Hanle River valley on an old branch of the ancient Ladakh–Tibet trade route. Hanle is the home of Hanle observatory,the tenth highest optical telescope in the world in India's first dark-sky preserve.

Harikrishnan Nadar Vasanthakumar was an Indian businessman and politician. He was the founder and chairman of Vasanth &Co,one of the largest retail home appliance chains in Tamil Nadu. He was also the founder and managing director of the Tamil satellite TV channel Vasanth TV. He was elected as the member of parliament to the 17th Lok Sabha from Kanyakumari constituency in the 2019 Indian general election. He was also elected as member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Nanguneri constituency in the 2006 and 2016 elections.
Hanle Monastery is a 17th-century gompa of the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism located in the Hanle Valley,Leh district,Ladakh,India on an old branch of the ancient Ladakh-Tibet trade route. The valley is home to about a thousand people,with about 300 people living in Hanle village. The monastery is home to about ten monks while another 33 or so come regularly for prayers. It is only 19 kilometres (12 mi) from the disputed frontier between India and Chinese-controlled Tibet. It is 255 km southeast of Leh,208 km southeast of Upshi &75 km southeast of Nyoma.
Tsering Landol is an Indian gynecologist and one of the pioneers of women's health in the Ladakh Union Territory of India. She served at the Sonam Norboo Memorial Government Hospital,Leh and is also associated with other educational institutions. The Government of India awarded her the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri,in 2006,and Padma Bhusan in 2020 for her contributions to Indian medicine,making her one of the few woman recipients of the award from Jammu and Kashmir and the first Ladakhi woman doctor to receive the honour. She is also featured on the 'Wall of Fame' which features those who have exhibited excellence throughout their career or existence have exemplified glory and greatness. The Wall recognizes those individuals and teams which have attained high achievement and/or made a significant contribution to society. Landol is featured in The Song Collector,a documentary film on the life of the renowned Ladakhi folk musician,Morup Namgyal. She was awarded Padma Bhushan,the third highest civilian award in India in the year 2020.

Jamyang Tsering Namgyal is an Indian politician and Member of Parliament from Ladakh,India's largest parliamentary seat geographically. Namgyal was elected,on 9 November 2018,to be the youngest and 8th Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council,Leh. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Beginning on 5 May 2020,Chinese and Indian troops engaged in aggressive melee,face-offs,and skirmishes at locations along the Sino-Indian border,including near the disputed Pangong Lake in Ladakh and the Tibet Autonomous Region,and near the border between Sikkim and the Tibet Autonomous Region. Additional clashes also took place at locations in eastern Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The Ladakh Chronicles,or La-dvags-rgyal-rabs,is a historical work that covers the history of Ladakh from the beginnings of the first Tibetan dynasty of Ladakh until the end of the Namgyal dynasty. The chronicles were compiled by the Namgyal dynasty,mostly during the 17th century,and are considered the primary written source for Ladakhi history.
