ProMT is a lead Russian developer of language translation software for businesses and private users since 1991. The company provides on-premises software based on neural technologies. [1]
On March 6, 1998, ProMT launched a free online translation services, which is now known as PROMT.One. [2]
In 1997, ProMT and the French company Softissimo developed a line of products for the European company Reverso. [3]
Historically, ProMT systems used rule-based machine translation (RBMT) technology. [4] In 2011 a hybrid approach which combined rule-based and statistical MT was implemented. [5]
In 2019, ProMT introduced its new neural technology [6] and flagship solution - PROMT Neural Translation Server. [7] Since then all MT systems developed by ProMT are based on neural machine translation.
The software can run on Microsoft Windows, Linux, MacOS, iOS and Android and works in offline mode providing secure machine translation.
As of 2022, it translates 45 languages from and to English, German, and Russian. [8]

The name Wordfast is used for any number of translation memory products developed by Wordfast LLC. The original Wordfast product, now called Wordfast Classic, was developed by Yves Champollion in 1999 as a cheaper alternative to Trados, a translation memory program. The current Wordfast products run on a variety of platforms but use largely compatible translation memory formats, and often also have similar workflows. The software is most popular with freelance translators, although some of the products are also suited for corporate environments.
Babylon is a computer dictionary and translation program developed by the Israeli company Babylon Software Ltd. based in the city of Or Yehuda. The company was established in 1997 by the Israeli entrepreneur Amnon Ovadia. Its IPO took place ten years later. It is considered a part of Israel's Download Valley, a cluster of software companies monetizing "free" software downloads through adware. Babylon includes in-house proprietary dictionaries, as well as community-created dictionaries and glossaries. It is a tool used for translation and conversion of currencies, measurements and time, and for obtaining other contextual information. The program also uses a text-to-speech agent, so users hear the proper pronunciation of words and text. Babylon has developed 36 English-based proprietary dictionaries in 21 languages. In 2008–2009, Babylon reported earnings of 50 million NIS through its collaboration with Google.
