Reverso is a French company specialized in AI-based language tools, translation aids, and language services. [2] These include online translation based on neural machine translation (NMT), contextual dictionaries, online bilingual concordances, grammar and spell checking and conjugation tools.
Reverso has been active since 1998, with the aim of providing online translation and linguistic tools to corporate and mass markets. [3] [4]
In 2013 it released Reverso Context, a bilingual dictionary tool based on big data and machine learning algorithms. [5]
In 2016 Reverso acquired Fleex, a service for learning English via subtitled movies. Based on content from Netflix, Fleex has expanded to also include video content from YouTube, TED Talks, and custom video files. [6] [7] [8]
In 2018 it released a new mobile app, which combines translations and learning activities.
In February 2018 it was reported that some translations on the Reverso translation web site returned antisemitic results, such as "Much nicer" returning "Dachau was much nicer than Auschwitz". [9] These results prompted the International League against Racism and Anti-Semitism to threaten Reverso with legal action. Reverso answered on Twitter that the controversial content would be removed. [10]
Reverso's suite of online linguistic services has over 96 million users, and comprises various types of language web apps and tools for translation and language learning. [11] Its tools support many languages, including Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Hebrew, Spanish, Italian, Ukrainian and Russian.
Since its founding Reverso has provided machine translation tools for automated translation of texts in various languages, including neural machine translation.
Reverso Context is an online and mobile application combining big data from large multilingual corpora to allow users to search for translations in context. [12] [13] These texts are sourced mainly from films, books, and governmental documents, allowing users to see idiomatic usages of translations as well as synonyms and voice output. The Reverso Context app also provides language-learning features such as flashcards based on words in example sentences. [14] Reverso has also released browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox to incorporate features of Reverso Context into web browsing. [15]
Reverso's website also provides collaborative bilingual dictionaries between various pairs of languages, which use crowd sourcing to allow users to submit new entries and provide feedback. It also has tools for conjugation of verbs in various languages, spell checking tools, and written multilingual grammar guides for language learners.

A parallel text is a text placed alongside its translation or translations. Parallel text alignment is the identification of the corresponding sentences in both halves of the parallel text. The Loeb Classical Library and the Clay Sanskrit Library are two examples of dual-language series of texts. Reference Bibles may contain the original languages and a translation, or several translations by themselves, for ease of comparison and study; Origen's Hexapla placed six versions of the Old Testament side by side. A famous example is the Rosetta Stone, whose discovery allowed the Ancient Egyptian language to begin being deciphered.
An electronic dictionary is a dictionary whose data exists in digital form and can be accessed through a number of different media. Electronic dictionaries can be found in several forms, including software installed on tablet or desktop computers, mobile apps, web applications, and as a built-in function of E-readers. They may be free or require payment.
A concordance is an alphabetical list of the principal words used in a book or body of work, listing every instance of each word with its immediate context. Historically, concordances have been compiled only for works of special importance, such as the Vedas, Bible, Qur'an or the works of Shakespeare, James Joyce or classical Latin and Greek authors, because of the time, difficulty, and expense involved in creating a concordance in the pre-computer era.
Google Translate is a multilingual neural machine translation service developed by Google to translate text, documents and websites from one language into another. It offers a website interface, a mobile app for Android and iOS, as well as an API that helps developers build browser extensions and software applications. As of 2022, Google Translate supports 133 languages at various levels; it claimed over 500 million total users as of April 2016, with more than 100 billion words translated daily, after the company stated in May 2013 that it served over 200 million people daily.

Zotero is free and open-source reference management software to manage bibliographic data and related research materials, such as PDF and ePUB files. Features include web browser integration, online syncing, generation of in-text citations, footnotes, and bibliographies, integrated PDF, ePUB and HTML readers with annotation capabilities, and a note editor, as well as integration with the word processors Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, and Google Docs. It was originally created at the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University and, as of 2021, is developed by the non-profit Corporation for Digital Scholarship.
Bible translations into French date back to the Medieval era. After a number of French Bible translations in the Middle Ages, the first printed translation of the Bible into French was the work of the French theologian Jacques Lefèvre d'Étaples in 1530 in Antwerp. This was substantially revised and improved in 1535 by Pierre Robert Olivétan. It is available both as a local desktop tool or online. Trados, owned by RWS, also provides a suite of intelligent machine translation products.
Microsoft Translator is a multilingual machine translation cloud service provided by Microsoft. Microsoft Translator is a part of Microsoft Cognitive Services and integrated across multiple consumer, developer, and enterprise products, including Bing, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Lync, Yammer, Skype Translator, Visual Studio, and Microsoft Translator apps for Windows, Windows Phone, iPhone and Apple Watch, and Android phone and Android Wear.
Ultralingua is a single-click and drag-and-drop multilingual translation dictionary, thesaurus, and language reference utility. The full suite of Ultralingua language tools is available free online without the need for download and installation. As well as its online products, the developer offers premium downloadable language software with extended features and content for Macintosh and Windows computer platforms, smartphones, and other hand held devices.
Tureng dictionary is a bilingual online Turkish English dictionary provided by Tureng Çeviri Ltd, a Turkish translation company. As of May 20, 2009, the site has more than 2.000.000 English and Turkish words and phrases, classified into categories by the field of usage with audial pronunciation in three different accents, British, American and Australian.
TermWiki.com is a major social learning network that allows users to learn, discover, share, and store personal terms and glossaries in 1487 domains in 97 languages. The site emphasizes collaboration, with a forum, a question/answer module, messaging features that encourage user interaction, and discussion pages on each term. The personal profile page allows users to become fans of other users, add photos, and add links and post comments on other users recent activity. TermWiki also allows companies to conduct international ad campaigns on keyword terms, for improved SEO performance.
Linguee is an online bilingual concordance that provides an online dictionary for a number of language pairs, including many bilingual sentence pairs. As a translation aid, Linguee differs from machine translation services like Babel Fish, and is more similar in function to a translation memory. Linguee is operated by Cologne-based DeepL GmbH, which was established in Cologne in December 2008.
Tatoeba is a free collection of example sentences with translations geared towards foreign language learners. It is available in more than 400 languages. Its name comes from the Japanese phrase "tatoeba" (例えば), meaning "for example". It is written and maintained by a community of volunteers through a model of open collaboration. Individual contributors are known as Tatoebans. It is run by Association Tatoeba, a French non-profit organization funded through donations.
Duolingo, Inc. is an American educational technology company that produces learning apps and provides language certification. Duolingo offers courses on music, math, and 43 languages, ranging from English, French, and Spanish to less commonly studied languages such as Welsh and Irish. Other services include the Duolingo English Test, an online certification program, and Duolingo ABC, a literacy app for children. The company uses a freemium model, with its optional premium service, Super Duolingo, being ad-free and offering more features.
Google Sheets is a spreadsheet application included as part of the free, web-based Google Docs Editors suite offered by Google. Google Sheets is available as a web application; a mobile app for: Android, iOS, and as a desktop application on Google's ChromeOS. The app is compatible with Microsoft Excel file formats. The app allows users to create and edit files online while collaborating with other users in real-time. Edits are tracked by which user made them, along with a revision history. Where an editor is making changes is highlighted with an editor-specific color and cursor. A permissions system regulates what users can do. Updates have introduced features that use machine learning, including "Explore", which offers answers based on natural language questions in the spreadsheet. Sheets is one of the services provided by Google that also includes Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Drawings, Google Forms, Google Sites and Google Keep.
Smigin is a conversation-based language learning platform available online and as a mobile application for iOS and Android. As of March 2016, Smigin has two products: Smigin, a language-learning website and Smigin Travel, a mobile translation app. Smigin's language learning site offers 4 different destination languages across 3 source languages, with several languages in development. Smigin Travel, exclusively designed for the mobile interface, is available on iOS and Android in 11 languages with users in over 175 countries.
Geneanet is a genealogy website with 4 million members. The database consists of data added by participants and is intended for all genealogists. The website is collaborative and the data added by the members are available for free to any interested people. An optional annual subscription provides additional search options and additional records.
CorCenCC or the National Corpus of Contemporary Welsh is a language resource for Welsh speakers, Welsh learners, Welsh language researchers, and anyone who is interested in the Welsh language. CorCenCC is a freely accessible collection of multiple language samples, gathered from real-life communication, and presented in the searchable online CorCenCC text corpus. The corpus is accompanied by an online teaching and learning toolkit – Y Tiwtiadur – which draws directly on the data from the corpus to provide resources for Welsh language learning at all ages and levels.
Almaany is a free online Arabic dictionary. According to The Routledge Course on Media, Legal and Technical Translation, Almaany has more than thirty different search domains, including accounting, agriculture, computer, social, legal, et cetera. It has Arabic to English translations and English to Arabic, as well as a significant quantity of technical terminology. It is useful to translators as its search results are given in context. Almaany offers correspondent meanings for Arabic terms with semantically similar words and is widely used in Arabic language research. Researchers such as Touahri and Mazroui have used Almaany to "explain difficult meaning lemmas" in their published results.
