Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College and Hospital [1] previously Mahanadi Institute of Medical Science and Research is a tertiary Government medical college in Talcher, Odisha, East India, and is accredited by the National Medical Commission. The college awards the degree Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). The college was established by Coal India limited. [2] [3]

History

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), the public sector undertaking and subsidiary of Coal India Limited reiterated its commitment to set up a medical college and hospital in the state, [4] and signed a MoU with National Building Corporation of India (NBCC) for medical college. [5] On 2022 Government of Odisha agrees to run the Medical college, while MCL will provide funds for operation. [6]

Courses offered

The college offers the degree Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Selection to the college is done on the basis of merit through the National Eligibility and Entrance Test. Yearly undergraduate student intake is 100 and the college has 500 beds. [7]

The existing plant was closed on 31 March 2021 with the plans to set up a new plant still in discussion phase. The power plant is one of the coal-based plants of NTPC. The coal for the power plant is sourced from Jagannath Mines of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited. Source of water for the plant is from Brahmani River. It has its own railway station and is well connected to three other important stations in close vicinity: Talcher Road, Angul and Talcher Stations. This power plant has been ranked among the best power plants in the country despite being the oldest plant in the state. Shri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital is a Government medical college in Puri, Odisha, where students may earn the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. Admission is based on merit using the National Eligibility and Entrance Test. Yearly undergraduate student intake is 100 with the first students arriving in 2021. SJMCH at Puri was built at a cost of around 300 crores on an area of 33 acres, and it is the eighth government medical college in the state.
