Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Nazriati (PTI-N) is a splinter group of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). It was created by Akhtar Iqbal Dar in 2012 after a disagreement with Imran Khan, one of the founders of PTI. [2] [3]
PTI-N was formed due to differences within PTI. Like many members of the past, Dar alleged that the PTI, founded in the name of justice, has become a turncoat party by inducting politicians from other parties. [2]
In January 2024, in a surprising turn of events, the PTI accused its breakaway group, the PTI-N, of reneging on an agreement under which PTI candidates would be fielded by the PTI-N. It was allowed to contest the election on the election symbol. Subsequently, Akhtar Iqbal Dar, the chairman of PTI-N, alleged that the PTI candidates had presented “fake” nomination papers to the returning officers. [4]
The PTI-N was accused of reneging on an agreement that allowed PTI candidates to contest elections under the PTI-N banner. [5] [6]
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is a political party in Pakistan established in 1996 by Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, who served as the country's prime minister from 2018 to 2022. The PTI ranks among the three major Pakistani political parties alongside the Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML–N) and the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), and it is the largest party in terms of representation in the National Assembly of Pakistan since the 2018 general election. With over 10 million members in Pakistan and abroad, it claims to be the country's largest political party by primary membership, as well as one of the largest political parties in the world.
Humayun Akhtar Khan is a Pakistani politician, business tycoon and actuary. He has been elected as a member of the National Assembly four consecutive times between 1990–2007, having served as Federal Minister for Trade and Commerce from 2002–2007 and as Chairman Board of Investment from 1997–1999.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is a Pakistani politician who is the former Chief Minister of Punjab. He was a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from August 2018 till January 2023, when he, as chief minister, dissolved the assembly. In 2023, he left the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) along with his son, Moonis Elahi, and 10 other former PML(Q) MPAs over political rifts with the party president and cousin, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. He was appointed president of the PTI. He was the former president of the Punjab Division of the PML(Q).
Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Hussain Qureshi is a Pakistani politician who served as the 29th Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2018 to 2022. He previously held the post from 2008 to 2011. He had been a member of the National Assembly from August 2018 till January 2023. He is the vice chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf political party since December 2011. Previously, he was a member of the National Assembly from 2002 to May 2018.
Jamshed Ahmad Khan Dasti is a Pakistani politician who had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan between 2008 and May 2018.
Jahangir Khan Tareen is a Pakistani businessman and former politician who is the majority shareholder and CEO of JDW Group, a conglomerate specialised in sugar manufacturing, biomass (bagasse) cogeneration, paper manufacturing, sugarcane farming, and aviation services. Jahangir Tareen is also the chairman and owner of JK Group, a conglomerate specialised in sugar manufacturing, milk production and processing, and sugarcane farming. He is also the chairman and owner of United Foods Pvt Ltd and Indus Mining. Khan has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan thrice between 2002 and 2017. Born in Comilla, Tareen was educated at the Forman Christian College in Lahore, and later attended the University of North Carolina. Prior to entering politics, he had been a lecturer and banker.
Sheikh Waqas Akram is a Pakistani politician and a former member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from November 2002 to November 2007 and from March 2008 to March 2013. He was the Minister of State for Labour and Manpower.
Mohammad Mumtaz Akhtar Kahloon is the District President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Sargodha District. He has also served as the Chairman of the National Vocational and Technical Education Commission of Pakistan (NAVTEC). He was appointed to this latter position by the incumbent Pakistani Prime Minister, Yousef Raza Gilani on 21 December 2010.
General elections were held in Pakistan on 25 July 2018 to elect the members of 15th National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies. The three major parties were Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by Imran Khan, the Pakistan Muslim League led by Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistan Peoples Party led by Bilawal Bhutto. The PTI won the most seats in the National Assembly but fell short of a majority; the party subsequently formed a coalition government with several smaller parties. At the provincial level, the PTI remained the largest party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP); the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) retained its dominance in Sindh and the newly formed Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) emerged as the largest party in Balochistan. In Punjab, the result was a hung parliament with the Pakistan Muslim League (N) winning the most seats. However, after several independents MPAs joined the PTI, the latter became the largest party and was able to form a government.

The 2022 Azadi March I was a protest march initiated by the ousted former Pakistani prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party chairman Imran Khan against the government of his successor, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. On 24 May 2022, Khan announced a long march towards Islamabad starting on 25 May 2022. Khan lead the march from Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where his provincial government helped him. Senior PTI members lead the march from Lahore, the capital of Punjab.
General elections were held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, 25 July 2018 to elect the 51 members of 15th National Assembly from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) obtained a landslide victory in the province by winning 37 general seats and increased their margin of victory from 2013. The PTI also won 8 out of 10 reserved seats while the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) won 1 reserved seat each.

This election will be held concurrently with nationwide general elections and other provincial elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan v. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, informally referred to as the PTI intra-party elections case, was a court case which involved a three-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), comprising Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, and Justice Musarrat Hilali. In this case, the SCP affirmed the initial decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of prohibiting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from retaining its electoral symbol, citing alleged irregularities in its intra-party elections conducted on 2 December 2023.
