Pakistan participated at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand after a hiatus of 20 years. It failed to win any medal at these games. The only time it has returned empty handed from the Commonwealth Games. [1]
The Commonwealth Games is a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations, which consists mostly, but not exclusively, of territories of the former British Empire. The event was first held in 1930 as the British Empire Games and, with the exception of 1942 and 1946, has successively run every four years since. The event was called the British Empire Games from 1930 to 1950, the British Empire and Commonwealth Games from 1954 to 1966, and the British Commonwealth Games from 1970 to 1974. The event removed the word British from its title for the 1978 Games and has maintained its current name ever since.
The 1950 British Empire Games were the fourth staging of what is now called the Commonwealth Games. It was held in Auckland, New Zealand, between 4 and 11 February 1950, after a 12-year gap from the third edition of the games. A documentary film of the games was made by the New Zealand National Film Unit. The main venue was Eden Park, although the closing ceremonies were held at Western Springs Stadium, see New Zealand at the 1950 British Empire Games. The fourth games were originally awarded to Montreal, Canada and were to be held in 1942 but were cancelled due to World War II.
The 1990 Commonwealth Games were held in Auckland, New Zealand from 24 January – 3 February 1990. It was the 14th Commonwealth Games, and part of New Zealand's 1990 sesquicentennial celebrations. Participants competed in ten sports: athletics, aquatics, badminton, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, judo, lawn bowls, shooting and weightlifting. Netball and the Triathlon were demonstration events.
Leslie Roy Mills is a retired New Zealand track and field athlete and politician. He represented New Zealand at the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games over two decades, competing in the shot put and discus throw. He won a total of five medals at the Commonwealth Games including gold in the discus at the 1966 Games.
Gregory Thomas Yelavich is a competitive pistol shooter from Auckland, New Zealand. As well as winning numerous national pistol titles, Yelavich has the distinction of having won more Commonwealth Games medals than any other New Zealander (12). He was the New Zealand flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games. He has represented New Zealand at two Olympic Games — Seoul 1988 and Barcelona 1992.
Tessa Duder is a New Zealand author of novels for young people, short stories, plays and non-fiction, and a former swimmer who won a silver medal for her country at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. As a writer, she is primarily known for her Alex quartet and long-term advocacy for New Zealand children's literature. As an editor, she has also published a number of anthologies. In 2020 she received the Prime Minister's Award for Literary Achievement in acknowledgement of her significant contributions to New Zealand fiction.
John Meredith Steel is a former freestyle swimmer from New Zealand, who competed at two consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1992 in Barcelona, Spain.
Toni Maree Jeffs is a former freestyle swimmer from New Zealand, who competed for her native country at the 1992 Summer Olympics. There she finished 27th equal in the 50m Freestyle. In the same event Jeffs twice won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games: in 1998 and in 2002.

The New Zealand team finished fourth on the medal table, winning a total of 58 medals, 17 of which were gold.
Paul James Kingsman is a swimmer and Olympic medalist from New Zealand. He participated at the 1988 Summer Olympics, winning a bronze medal in 200 metre backstroke. He also competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics.
Abrar Hussain was a professional Pakistani welterweight and Light-middleweight boxer. Hussain represented Pakistan at the 1984, 1988, and 1992 Summer Olympics. In 1985 South Asian Games, he won a Gold medal for Pakistan in Dhaka. In 1990 Asian Games, Hussain secured Gold medal in boxing for Pakistan. He also represented his country at the 1990 Commonwealth Games.
Nigel James Donnelly is a New Zealand cyclist, who won a gold medal representing his country at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. He also competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1992 Summer Olympics.
Kevin Robert Darling is a former New Zealand international lawn bowler.
Judith Heather Howat is a former New Zealand international lawn bowler. She won a gold medal representing her country in the women's pairs at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, and was part of the New Zealand women's four that finished second at the 1992 World Outdoor Bowls Championship.
Cassandra Lee Kelly is a retired athlete from New Zealand. She represented her country in pole vault, heptathlon and hurdles in two Commonwealth Games.
