Timothy Peter Johnson is a retired American lawyer and politician who served as a United States senator from South Dakota from 1997 to 2015. A member of the Democratic Party,he served as the United States representative for South Dakota's at-large congressional district from 1987 to 1997 and in the state legislature from 1979 to 1987. Johnson did not seek reelection to the Senate in 2014;South Dakota’s congressional delegation has been all-Republican since he left office. Johnson is also the last Democrat to have held statewide office in South Dakota or win a statewide election in the state.
The Big Sioux River is a tributary of the Missouri River in eastern South Dakota and northwestern Iowa in the United States. It flows generally southwardly for 419 mi (674 km),and its watershed is 9,006 sq mi (23,330 km2). The United States Board on Geographic Names settled on "Big Sioux River" as the stream's name in 1931. The river was named after the Lakota people which was known by them as Tehankasandata,or Thick Wooded River.

4-HO-MET is a lesser-known psychedelic drug. It is a structural and functional analog of psilocin as well as the 4-hydroxyl analog of methylethyltryptamine (MET). 4-HO-MET was first synthesized by Alexander Shulgin. Very little data exists about the pharmacological properties,metabolism,and toxicity of 4-HO-MET. There have been no reports of deaths from 4-HO-MET,even though there exist anecdotal reports of the ingestion of up to 150 mg,more than an order of magnitude above the effective dose.

The Mammoth Site is a museum and paleontological site near Hot Springs,South Dakota,in the Black Hills. It is an active paleontological excavation site at which research and excavations are continuing. The facility encloses a prehistoric sinkhole that formed and was slowly filled with sediments during the Pleistocene era. The sedimentary fill of the sinkhole contains the remains of Pleistocene fauna and flora preserved by entrapment and burial within a sinkhole. As of 2016,the remains of 61 mammoths,including 58 North American Columbian and 3 woolly mammoths had been recovered. Mammoth bones were found at the site in 1974,and a museum and building enclosing the site were established. The museum now contains an extensive collection of mammoth remains.
