Pandit Sundarlal Sharma (Open) University (PSSOU) Chhattisgarh, Bilaspur was established by the Chhattisgarh legislature in the 55th year of the republic of India under. The Pandit Sundarlal Sharma (Open) University Chhattisgarh Act, 2004. [1] It was named after Sundarlal Sharma, a freedom and social justice fighter of the Chhattisgarh region. Dr. T.D. Sharma joined this university as the first Vice-Chancellor on 2 March 2005 while Dr. Sharad Kumar Vajpai takes office as Registrar on 15 March 2005. Dr. B. G. Singh was reappointed VC of the university for another term. [2]
The university was formally inaugurated by the former Vice Prime Minister, Govt. of India and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Shri Lal Krishna Advani at a function presided over by the honorable Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Dr. Raman Singh attended by Shri Ajay Chandrakar (Minister of Higher Education), Shri Amar Agrawal (Minister of Finance) along with large number of dignitaries and guests. The university is administered by an Executive Council, Academic Council, Planning Board, Departments, Board of Studies and the Finance Committee. The present Vice Chancellor is Dr. B.G. Singh and Dr. Indu Anant is Registrar.

Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) is a public state university in Mumbai, India. The institute also has campuses at Bhubaneswar, Odisha and Jalna, Marathwada. It is focused on training and research in the fields of chemical engineering, chemical technology, and pharmacy. It was established in 1933 and was granted deemed university status in 2008, making it the only state-funded deemed university in India. Anant Maral Shastri (1912–1999) was an Indian freedom fighter, journalist, literary figure, poet, Sanskrit scholar, linguist and administrator. At a very young age, he left Ambikapur, now in Chhattisgarh, and joined Kashi Vidyapeeth, a nationalist institution of learning in Varanasi, where he found a Guru in Acharya Narendra Dev, a great freedom fighter, scholar and teacher.
C.M. Dubey Postgraduate College or C.M.D. P.G. College is a degree college located in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, India. Established in 1956, The college was inaugurated by Pt. Dwarika Prasad Mishra the then Vice Chancellor of the University of Sagar on 31 July 1956. It is affiliated to Bilaspur University. It is one of the oldest institute of higher education of Chhattisgarh.

Pandit Sundarlal Sharma was a key figure in the independence movement from Chhattisgarh. He was largely responsible for ushering in political and social consciousness to Chhattisgarh. In 1920, he started the canal satyagraha, also known as the Nahar satyagraha, at a village called Kandel in Dhamtari Tehsil. Chhattisgarh has a university in the name of Pandit Sundarlal Sharma.
