Tapan Sinha was one of the most prominent Indian film directors of his time forming a legendary quartet with Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak and Mrinal Sen. He was primarily a Bengali filmmaker who worked both in Hindi cinema and Bengali cinema, directing films like Kabuliwala (1957), Louha-Kapat, Sagina Mahato (1970), Apanjan (1968), Kshudhita Pashan and children's film Safed Haathi (1978) and Aaj Ka Robinhood. Sinha started his career in 1946, as a sound engineer with New Theatres film production house in Kolkata, then in 1950 left for England where he worked at Pinewood Studios for next two years, before returning home to start his six decade long career in Indian cinema, making films in Bengali, Hindi and Oriya languages, straddling genres from social realism, family drama, labor rights, to children's fantasy films. He was one of the acclaimed filmmakers of Parallel Cinema movement of India.

<i>Ogo Bodhu Shundori</i> 1981 Indian film

Ogo Bodhu Shundori is a 1981 Bengali comedy film, directed by Salil Dutta. It was one of the last films of the iconic Bengali actor Uttam Kumar, who died during production. A lookalike, Prabir Kumar, was brought in to stand in for Kumar for the final sections of the film and for the song O Daddy, O Mummy. The film starred also Moushumi Chatterjee, Sumitra Mukherjee, Ranjit Mallick and Santosh Dutta. The film became blockbuster hit at the box office.

Dr. Shubhendu Chattopadhyay was an Indian physician and actor, who is known for acting in Bengali television and films. A contemporary of actors Uttam Kumar and Soumitra Chatterjee, with whom he played second hero in many films, Chatterjee with age had graduated into character roles.

Ganadevata is a 1978 Bengali drama film directed by Tarun Majumdar, based on a novel by same name by Tarashankar Bandopadhyay. The film stars Soumitra Chatterjee, Ajitesh Bannerjee, Samit Bhanja, Rabi Ghosh and Anup Kumar in lead roles. Ekti Raat is a 1956 Indian Bengali-language comedy film directed by Chitta Basu and produced by Harendranath Chattopadhyay based on, Bhimpalashree, a story of Bengali novelist Balai Chand Mukhopadhyay. Film starring Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen in lead role with Tulsi Chakraborty and Bhanu Banerjee. This film was released on 26 April 1956 in the banner of H.N.C. Productions. In the 1990s, a television series Manush, based on the same plot, aired. This film become successful at the box office.

Khana Baraha is a Bengali historical drama film directed by Bijoy Bose and produced by Ashim Sarkar. This film was based the story of Manmatha Roy on the life of Khana and Varāhamihira, the ancient mathematician astrologers of India. It was released on 29 May 1981.

Dhanraj Tamang is a Bengali language action drama film directed by Pijush Bose. This film was released on 29 September 1978 in the banner of Usha Films. The story was written by Jorasandha. The film starring Uttam Kumar in name lead with Sandha Roy, Anil Chatterjee, Utpal Dutta, Chaya Devi. Music direction was done by Shyamal Mitra. The film produced by Ashim Sarkar who worked with Uttam before Sabyasachi 1977, Sanyashi Raja 1975. The film became hit at the box office.

Datta is a 1951 Bengali romantic drama film directed by Soumyen Mukhopadhyay and released under the banner of S. B. Production. The film is based on the novel with the same name written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The film was remade twice: in 1976 and later in 2023.

The film was remade in Hindi as Ayaash. Film was based on the novel of Bimal Mitra as same title and the era of the plot showing during the Second World War. The film showed Uttam's another one of the best performance and clash with Soumitra. The film become blockbuster hit at the box office. The films was dominated at the BFJA Award 1973 and goes to win seven awards.

Abhijaan is a 2022 Indian Bengali-language biographical film directed by Parambrata Chatterjee. The film is based on the life and works of legendary actor and Bengali icon Soumitra Chatterjee. The central character of Soumitra Chatterjee is played by Jisshu Sengupta along with a supporting cast of Prosenjit Chatterjee, Basabdatta Chatterjee, Q, Paoli Dam, Debshankar Haldar, Sohini Sengupta, Rudranil Ghosh, Tridha Choudhury and Parambrata Chatterjee.

Aro Ekjan is a Bengali drama film directed by Srijan based on the same name novel of Ashutosh Mukhopadhyay. The film was released on 4 April 1980 under the banner of Baba Taraknath Chitramandir.

Aparichita is a Bengali multi-starrer drama film directed by Salil Dutta based on a novel of Samaresh Basu actually inspired by The Idiot of Fyodor Dostoyevsky. It was released on 5 December 1969 under the banner of R.D. Productions. Uttam Kumar-Aparna Sen pair first appeared in this film.
