Pantheist are a Belgian and British funeral doom band formed in 2000 by Kostas Panagiotou.
Pantheist was formed in 2000 by Greek musician Kostas Panagiotou in Antwerp, Belgium. Initially a solo project, he recorded a synth ambient demo which was never released. [2] He was later joined by Nicolas Tambuyser, who played guitar. They shortly after recorded their first demo, 1000 Years. [2] In 2002, bassist Frédéric Caure and drummer Oscar Strik joined the band. [2] In 2003, they released their first album, O Solitude, through Firebox Records. The following year, Caure and Strik left the band, citing musical differences, and were replaced by Kris Villez on drums and Wim Boey on bass. [2]
In 2004, Panagiotou moved the band to the United Kingdom, although Tambuyser remained in Belgium and was still a member of the band. [2] For their second album, Amartia, Pantheist was joined by Mark Bodossian and Andy Semmens of Esoteric on bass and drums/vocals respectively, as session musicians. [2] At this time Ilia Rodriguez also joined the band on guitar and whilst Semmens focused on vocals, Sterghios Moschos joined on drums, the new lineup producing the “Pains of Sleep EP”. In 2008, the band released their third studio album, Journey Through Lands Unknown, recorded at Priory Recording studios. It took 18 months to write and produce. [3]
In 2011, the band released their self-titled fourth album through Grau Records. [3] The album represented a change in direction to a more progressive style of doom metal, incorporating elements of progressive rock, dark wave, and new wave. [4] In 2016, frontman Kostas Panagiotou released a 145-page science fiction novel, Events (Or Professor Losaline’s Extraordinary Journey into the Unknown), alongside his solo EP Chapters. Each of the six tracks from the EP accompanies one of the six chapters of the novel. [5] The intention of the novel was to fund the production of Pantheist's fifth full-length album, Seeking Infinity. [6] Released in 2018, [7] the album marked a return to the band's traditional funeral doom and death-doom style, though it still retained some elements of progressive and neofolk metal. [6]

Paramaecium was an Australian death/doom metal band formed in 1991. There is use of instrumentation like flutes, cellos and violins on some albums. Paramaecium is one of the few doom metal bands that focus on Christian lyrical themes and Christian concepts. According to Doom-metal.com, "what sets Paramaecium apart from other bands in the doom metal scene, is the fact that they are the only Christian death/doom band that made it to the top of the genre."
Esoteric is an English funeral doom metal band from Birmingham, founded in 1992. Releasing seven studio albums, and a demo, the band is widely regarded as among the first groups to develop the funeral doom style. The band has named a variety of groups as influences, such as metal bands Morbid Angel and My Dying Bride, more "trippy" artists such as Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3, and King Crimson, and the industrial and dark ambient genres.
Flowing Tears was a German gothic metal band founded in 2003 in Wadgassen. Their original name was Flowing Tears & Withered Flowers, which they used for their first several releases. The band's final lineup consisted of vocalist Helen Vogt, guitarist/keyboardist Benjamin Buss, bassist David Vogt and drummer Stefan Gemballa.
Bethlehem is a German extreme metal band from Grevenbroich, formed in 1991 by Jürgen Bartsch and Klaus Matton. Before starting Bethlehem, Bartsch and Matton used to play in a German thrash metal band Morbid Vision. Many of their lyrics revolve around sickness, morbidity, suicide, death and madness, and may to some extent be personal to the band.
Mournful Congregation is a funeral doom metal band from Adelaide, South Australia, which was founded in 1993, and has included members of Chalice, Cauldron Black Ram and Esoteric.
Stream from the Heavens is the only studio album by Finnish doom metal band Thergothon. It was recorded in late 1992 and released after many delays on June 15, 1994 through the Italian record label Avantgarde Music. The band had eventually disbanded a year before the release of the album. Stream from the Heavens continues the funeral doom subgenre that Thergothon pioneered with their 1991 demo Fhtagn nagh Yog-Sothoth. The album was re-issued on CD in 1999 and also in 2004 by Belgian label Painiac as a 12" LP, limited to 500 copies.

Exhumed of the Earth is the debut album by Paramaecium. It was released in 1993. Exhumed of the Earth is considered to be one of the landmarks of both doom metal and Christian metal movements.
While Heaven Wept was an American epic doom metal band based in Dale City, Virginia. The primary writer and overall engine of the band was mainman Tom Phillips. Their melodic, classically influenced style could be compared to bands such as Solitude Aeturnus and Solstice ; however, 2003's acclaimed Of Empires Forlorn saw the band branching out into a variety of metal and progressive styles. This trend continues on their 2009 album, Vast Oceans Lachrymose, and on their 2011 album, Fear of Infinity.
Ephel Duath was an Italian avant garde metal/hardcore punk band, formed in 1998 in Padua, Italy. They have had a constantly changing line-up, with guitarist and songwriter Davide Tiso being the only original member. To date, they have released one demo, five studio albums and two remix albums. Their most recent studio album, Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness, was released in 2013.

Celestiial is a funeral doom metal band from Minnesota. Initially consisting only of Tanner R. Anderson, the band was later joined by Jason William Walton (bass) and Timothy Glenn (percussion). Celestiial is known for using numerous instruments in its music, combining traditional folk instruments with those more typically used in metal music, as well as sampling the sounds of the natural world. Celestiial's music is intended to evoke images of the natural world.
Gallhammer were a Japanese extreme metal group that drew on blackened crust, black metal, doom metal and crust punk. They formed in Tokyo in 2003 and released three studio albums.
Deinonychus is a Dutch doom metal band formed in 1992 by Marco Kehren. There is a close relationship between Deinonychus and the German band Bethlehem: Kehren provided vocals on S.U.I.Z.I.D., Reflektionen auf's Sterben and Profane Fetmilch Lenzt Elf Krank, while Bethlehem bassist and lyricist Jürgen Bartsch joined Deinonychus in 2005. The first three albums and the early demos released as After the Rain Falls...An Empty Sky Remains, feature Kehren on all instruments and vocals; 1999's Deinonychus added Cradle of Filth drummer William Sarginson, and 2002's Mournument was recorded with a full band. The band announced that they disbanded in September 2008. Marco Kehren nowadays runs a martial industrial band by the name of Nihil Novi Sub Sole.
Jayson Andrew Sherlock is a Christian metal musician from Australia. He began his career in the Australian death metal band Mortification, which was considered to be a major pioneer in the genre. Sherlock was the founder of the one-man project unblack metal band Horde, in which he played every instrument. He has also been in other bands such as Paramaecium, inExordium, Altera Enigma, and Soundscape. During 2012, he was the drummer for Deliverance. He is currently the drummer for the death metal band Revulsed.
