Paolo Giovanni Plaza Onesa (born 10 October 1993) is a Filipino singer and songwriter. He began his career as a contestant in first season of The Voice of the Philippines with a live performance of the James Bond film song "Skyfall" that went viral on youtube and earned him a record deal with MCA Music, a Universal Music label. [1] Onesa advanced to the semi-finals under Bamboo Mañalac's team. [2] [3]

Onesa received two Awit Awards for his performance of the song "Lucky in Love": Best Performance by a Male Recording Artist and Best Performance by a New Male Recording Artist. [4] "Lucky in Love" is included in Onesa's debut album Pop Goes Standards and as a bonus track on The Voice of the Philippines The Final 4 album released by MCA Music. [5] Onesa received an AWIT nomination for his performance of the song "Which Way, Robert Frost?" for Best Performance by a Male Recording Artist. [6] [7] [8]

After his first album with MCA Music, Onesa signed with HomeWorkz under Jay R Sillona. He has been part of Star Magic. [5]

Early life and education

Paolo Onesa is from Zamboanga City on the island of Mindanao, The Philippines. [5] The eldest son of Mr. Ariel Onesa and Mrs. Arlene Onesa his younger brother is Marco Onesa. Onesa was encouraged by his grandmother, who taught him music, to pursue a career as a singer. After attending a summer music workshop, he formed a band. The band entered a local contest and won. [9] [10] Onesa was a BS Mass Communication student of Ateneo de Zamboanga University.

Musical career

On 6 July 2013 airing of Episode 7 of The Blind auditions on the first season of The Voice of The Philippines , Onesa performed the song "Yakap Sa Dilim", a song that was originally recorded by Orange and Lemons. Coach Bamboo Mañalac chose Onesa to be on his team. [11]

Onesa's live performance of the James Bond film song "Skyfall" went viral on youtube. Onesa's "Skyfall" charted Top 1 spot in iTunes 24 hours after the performance. [1]

During Week 5 Semifinals, Onesa performed "Elesi" in a battle against Myk Perez's "Baby, I Love Your Way". The public vote was 51.92 points for Onesa vs. 48.08 for Perez, while the Coach vote was 45 points for Onesa vs. 55 points for Perez. The result of the total points was 103.03 for Perez vs. 96.92 for Onesa, and Onesa was eliminated. [10] [12]

On 14 February 2014, MCA Universal released Onesa's debut album "Pop Goes Standards". The album contains 11 tracks including two original songs, his single "Lucky in Love" and "Which Way, Robert Frost?", both written by Roxanne Seeman. [11] [13]

After The Voice Of The Philippines, Onesa signed as a Star Magic artist and joined ASAP 20 a Sunday variety show of ABS-CBN. He appears in the segment "ASAP Covers" joining Sam Milby, Nyoy Volante, KZ Tandingan, Gab Valenciano, and Princess. Onesa also appeared in a Mid-Morning Daily Show The Singing Bee as a Regular Performer from September 2014 to February 2015. [14]

On 25 February 2015, "Paolo Onesa Homecoming concert", Onesa's first solo concert, was held in his Hometown at WMSU Zamboanga City.

In 2016 with the release of his single Find You, Onesa changed his genre from crooner to EDM pop artist. [7]

Personal life

On 21 December 2017, Onesa became in a relationship with his long time friend, model, medical technologist and food blogger Pearl Mariam A. de Castro.

Fan club

A fan club called Paollowers has more than 15,000 supporters. The fan club is handled by Loui Pestano Urbano.

PAOLLOWERS came from Paolo Onesa's first name which is "PAOLO" and "FOLLOWERS" which means supporters.

PAOLLOWERS was one of the contender from the recent WISH FM 1075 Fandom Challenge which was joined by other famous fandom. [15] [16]

The Apolinario Mabini Hiking Society, later popularly known as APO Hiking Society, or simply APO, was a Filipino musical group. Josephine Eusebio Constantino-Asuncion, professionally known as Yeng Constantino, is a Filipino pop rock singer-songwriter, occasional actress and host. She is referred to as the Philippines Pop Rock Royalty and is regarded as one of the biggest hitmakers in Philippine music industry. In 2006, she won the title "Grand Star Dreamer" in the inaugural season of Pinoy Dream Academy, the Philippine edition of Endemol's reality TV show Star Academy. Franco is a rock band from the Philippines formed in 2008. The band had its beginnings as a supergroup with members from iconic Filipino bands, consisting of Franco Reyes (InYo) on vocals, Gabby Alipe (Urbandub) on guitar, 8 Toleran (Queso) on guitar, Buwi Meneses on bass guitar, and JanJan Mendoza (Urbandub) on drums. This original lineup disbanded in mid-2012, and regrouped with frontman Franco Reyes backed by Paul Cañada on guitar, Dave Delfin on bass and Victor Guison on drums.

Juan Karlos "JK" Labajo is a German-Filipino actor, singer, songwriter, guitarist, and television personality. He is co-managed by ABS-CBN's Star Magic and MCA Music Inc. (Philippines). He is currently the frontman of the band Juan Karlos.

Lucky in Love recorded with the title Bu Zhi You Yuan 不只有緣("Not Only Fate")is a song by Hong Kong singer and actor Jacky Cheung. It is the theme song of the 2010 Hong Kong film Crossing Hennessy. The song was written by Roxanne Seeman and Daniel Nitt with Cantonese lyrics by Kenny So. It was produced by Andrew Tuason (杜自持) in Hong Kong and released on Cheung's Private Corner album on January 29, 2010.

Kyle John Paradillo Echarri is a Filipino-American singer and actor. He was born in Orange County, California and started singing at the age of one. His family moved to Cebu City, Philippines in June 2014. Echarri rose to prominence and made his first television appearance at the age of eleven when he joined season 2 of The Voice Kids, where he landed Top 6 under Sarah Geronimo's Team. Just six seconds after he started singing One Direction's "Night Changes" during the blind auditions, Coaches Bamboo and Sarah already turned for the then 11-year-old Cebuano footballer eventually choosing to be part of Team Sarah. A commemorative album was then released by MCA Music featuring Kyle Echarri's performances tracks "Got To Believe in Magic" and "Hero".

Buwan 2018 song by Juan Karlos

"Buwan" (transl. "Moon") is a song written and sung by Filipino actor, singer and songwriter, Juan Karlos Labajo. Under the band name Juan Karlos, it was released on June 22, 2018, through MCA Music. The song became one of the most played OPM songs of 2018, winning Song of the Year at the 2019 Myx Music Awards, 2019 Awit Award for People's Voice Favorite Song. "Buwan" received huge popularity and started as a song challenge through social media platforms in the Philippines even overseas.
