PKC (Papendrechtse Korfbal Club) is a Dutch korfball club located in Papendrecht, Netherlands. The club was founded on 2 February 1935 [1] and they play their home games in the PKC-Hal. The team plays in white shirts and green shorts / skirts. The club has around 1000 members, which makes it the biggest korfball club in the world. [2]

History

In 1971 PKC first joined the highest Dutch competition outdoors, the Hoofdklasse. Although they finished at 9th place in their first season in the top, they quickly moved towards being one of the top teams in the Netherlands. Their first national title came in season 1976-1977, when they won the Dutch outdoor title.

Their first success in the indoor-competition came in season 1979-1980, where they played their first outdoor final in club history. In this final they lost to Deetos.

Since the existence of the Korfbal League PKC has won the title five times, the last time being in 2024. [3] In 2014 and 2016 PKC also won the IKF Europa Korfball Cup [4] [5] , later replaced by the Korfball Champions League (KCL) which they also won two times. [6]

The Korfball European Cup was the main annual korfball competition for clubs in Europe. The first Europa Cup took place in 1967 in London (England), with two teams from the Netherlands, Belgium and the host nation England. Ons Eibernest from The Hague won the first tournament. The tournament was won exclusively by clubs from the Netherlands and Belgium, and Mitcham (England) and Adler Rauxel (Germany) were the only clubs outside Netherlands and Belgium to reach the final. In January 2022, the IKF announced that the IKF Europa Cup and IKF Europa Shield would be replaced by the IKF Europe Korfball Champions League for the 2022-23 Season.

The Korfbal League is the highest echelon of indoor korfball in the Netherlands. The league was founded in 2005 as the new highest level in Dutch korfball. Before that the top level was split in two divisions. Since the start of the competition the format has been the same. The winner of the Korfbal League qualifies for the Korfball Champions League while the number 10 relegated to the Korfbal League 2. The number 9 will compete with the loser of the Korfbal League 2 final in a play-off for a position in the Korfbal League.

Wim Scholtmeijer (1982) is a former Dutch Korfball player and former Dutch National Team Coach. Since 2020 has been the headcoach of PKC. As a player Scholtmeijer won four Dutch national championships and two European championships. As the Dutch national team headcoach he won six gold medals.

The Men's Hoofdklasse Hockey, currently known as the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men for sponsorship reasons, is the men's top division of field hockey in the Netherlands. The league ranks first in the European league ranking table. The league was established in 1973, and before the league existed the champions of the several district played in a championship pool to determine the national champion.
