Par Avion is a SPIN.com pick band currently consisting of singer/guitarist/composer Paul Avion, bassist/composer Zachary Ginder, keyboardist/composer Zandro Urbiztondo and drummer Andrew Rivera. [1]

History

Par Avion was formed in 2004 in Los Angeles, and originally consisted of Tanya Haden (cellist, sister of Petra Haden, now wed to comedian Jack Black), Nick Lucero (a former drummer for Queens of the Stone Age), session musician Korel Tunador and Paul Avion.

Par Avion's first official EP release, in 2006, was produced by Scott Benzel, although earlier demos were recorded by Ben Mumphrey, producer of Frank Black & the Catholics Devil's Workshop EP.

The current line-up has been in existence since 2006, as the band has seen an evolution in a more 1990s direction, with some alt-country elements, as well. [2] [3]

Since then, the band has released a number of singles, such as "Stand Up, Be a Man" and "Fibromyalgia," which have appeared on PBS' Roadtrip Nation , [4] Fuel TV's extreme sports show, The Daily Habit, and AMC's Hollywood Icon. [5]

"Fibromyalgia," which was featured as a download on SPIN.com, [1] appears to have been written about local musician Annie Hardy of Giant Drag, who suffers from the disease. [6] [7] In February 2009, Par Avion received further press in SPIN. [1]

The band has also received press in College Music Magazine, Glasswerk UK, Sentimentalist Magazine and other outlets. [8] [9] [10]

In June 2009, Under the Radar Magazine's Digital Sampler, Volume IX included the single "Art School Dropout" along with a number of bands from Sub Pop, Merge Records and Saddle Creek Records. [11]

In late 2009, they received further write-ups in College News and in New York's Sentimentalist Magazine further likening their sound to that of the 1990s. [12] [7]

In January 2010, SPIN Earth announced the publication of a series of articles covering Paul Avion's trip to the slums of Kenya. [13] [14]

<i>A Lesson in Romantics</i> 2007 studio album by Mayday Parade

A Lesson in Romantics is the debut studio album by American rock band Mayday Parade. The band resulted from a merger of two separate bands, Kid Named Chicago and Defining Moment. In June 2006 the band released an EP, Tales Told by Dead Friends, which they sold to people by following the 2006 edition of Warped Tour and offering copies; it eventually sold 10,000 copies. The band signed to Fearless Records in August. A Lesson in Romantics was recorded in early 2007 with producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount. Vocalist/guitarist Jason Lancaster left the band in March 2007 citing a lack of writing credit on the band's releases. Prior to the release of A Lesson in Romantics, "Black Cat", "When I Get Home, You're So Dead", and "Jamie All Over" were made available for streaming. After the album's release, the band participated in the 2007 edition of Warped Tour.

Math and Physics Club are an American indie pop band based in Seattle, Washington, United States. Its members are Charles Bert and Ethan Jones. James Werle played lead guitar until he died in 2018. Kevin Emerson (drums) continues to play on recordings though no longer a full time member of the band. The band has released three EPs and four full-length albums on Santa Barbara-based Matinee Recordings, with UK distribution on Fika Recordings. They are often associated with Australian labelmates The Lucksmiths and twee pop band Tullycraft, and Pitchfork Media described their work as "music to hold hands to" after The Lucksmiths' song on the album "Why That Doesn't Surprise Me".

<i>Abominations</i> (album) 2007 studio album by Schoolyard Heroes

Abominations is the third and final studio album by Seattle horror punk band Schoolyard Heroes. The album was recorded in January 2007 over the course of 18 days, and released on September 18 of the same year. After signing to Stolen Transmission, the album served as the band's major label debut and their first album not to be released independently through The Control Group. The production of the album was handled entirely by John Goodmanson with the majority of the lyrics composed by the band's singer and frontwoman Ryann Donnelly. Donnelly serves as the main singer on the album, with bassist Jonah Bergman performing backing vocals.
