Paris Jones (born Patrick Campbell, July 12, 1990 [1] ) is an American singer, musician and producer from California and Virginia. His style has been described as experimental, eclectic and new age. [2]
Campbell was born in Inglewood, California and raised in Palmdale. He credits his father with being the earliest influence on his music, saying that he "bought me my first DJ set (2 turntables and a 2 channel mixer before Serato lol) when I was 10 years old. He invested in my musical gifts every opportunity he could." [3] He was once suspended from school for battle rapping. [4]
He later attended Liberty University in Virginia. [5] On his second day of college, one of his best friends in California was fatally shot, and Campbell increasingly turned to music as an outlet for his feelings. [6] Early in his career, he adopted the stage name "Paris Jones": "Paris is for the finer things. People have joneses for shoes, etc. I have a Jones for living above the mediocre lives most are expected to just accept and live." [7]
In 2010, Jones released a single "Popular" with a sample from the Broadway musical Wicked ; when Kanye West released a video in which he used the same sample, false rumors began to spread that West had signed Jones. [8] [9]
In 2011, Jones met with executives at several major record labels but was not signed. He later described this as a blessing in disguise, preferring to maintain independent control of his own music. [10] The Source named him its Unsigned Hype in October 2012. [11]
Starting in 2011, he began work on the material that would become You’re Invited to the Assassination of Patrick Campbell… The album explores the process of Jones shedding his identity and baggage as "Patrick Campbell" to become a new, mature individual and artist. [12] [13] The album debuted in 2013 on Yahoo! Music, which described it as "Auto-Tune ballads ("Ashley Brown"), easy, soul-stirring mid-tempos ("Okay"), drum and bass infused underground hip-hop tracks ("Name Droppin'"), spacey, hypnotic metaphor treats ("Birds And Horses") and an experimental interpretation of Drake's "I'll Take Care Of You" that has been slowed down to chopped and screwed like speed." [14] "Make It Hot / The Assassination" features voiceover contributions from American actor Jesse Cole Best and disc-jockey Killgxxd, both Virginia natives. "Make It Hot..." is a skit track that aggregates the aforentioned themes on the album into a skit describing the moment the anthropomorphized antagonist of the record, Patrick Campbell, is found dead, giving the evolved version "Paris Jones" his figurative birth and introducing him as the protagonist.
"You're Invited…" received positive reviews, particularly its track "Summer". [15] The track "Okay" on which Angel Haze appears was also singled out for praise by several reviewers. Ghettoblaster magazine described Jones and Haze as "one hell of a tag team." [16] Jenesis wrote that listeners were "in for a treat." [17] Yahoo! Music wrote that Jones "intermixes his singing and raps with ease and is free enough to take on topics that introspective or braggadocio." [18] Crave praised the "enchantingly smooth gravity in the track framework to Jones' soulful flow. [19] Earmilk wrote that "Everything from the album title to the politically charged images to which you can find on his Instagram just screams unique. The vision that Paris Jones has for his music is definitely something I've not seen for quite a while." [20]
Jones released one EP a month throughout 2014, titling each after the month of its release. He stated in an interview that he was inspired by the prolific creation of 2pac and J Dilla, and wanted to train himself to produce music constantly. [21] Jerard Fagerberg of the Boston Globe site BDCWire praised "the extremely dedicated work" but noted that "'December' surely isn’t his most gripping entry." [22]
Jones' song "You Like Me" has become a popular source for remixes, most notably by OZZIE and Tails. [23]
Jones produced the track "Gypsy Letters" on Angel Haze’s mixtape Reservation [24] and has produced for Nitty Scott, MC. [25]
Slim Shady EP is the only extended play by American rapper Eminem, released on December 10, 1997, through Web Entertainment. Unlike his debut album Infinite, Slim Shady EP helped Eminem gain the interest of CEO Jimmy Iovine and West Coast hip-hop rapper and producer Dr. Dre, who subsequently signed Eminem to his Aftermath Entertainment record label, and served as executive producer on his major-label debut album The Slim Shady LP (1999).
Cam'ron Giles, known mononymously as Cam'ron, is an American rapper. Beginning his career in the early-1990s as Killa Cam, Giles signed with Lance "Un" Rivera's Untertainment, an imprint of Epic Records to release his first two studio albums Confessions of Fire (1998) and S.D.E. (2000); the former received gold certification by the RIAA. After leaving Epic, Giles signed with Roc-A-Fella Records in 2001 to release his third studio album, Come Home with Me, the following year. It received platinum certification by the RIAA and spawned the singles "Oh Boy" and "Hey Ma", which peaked at numbers four and three on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively. His fourth studio album, Purple Haze (2004) was met with similar success and likewise received gold certification by the RIAA.
Purple Haze is the fourth studio album by Harlem rapper Cam'ron. The album was released on December 7, 2004, by Diplomat Records, Roc-A-Fella Records and distributed by Def Jam Recordings. The release of this album was delayed several times from November 2003, the first single "Get Em Girls" was released a year prior to the actual album release. The album debuted at number 20 on the Billboard 200 with 123,000 copies sold in its first week. The album was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Appleseed is an EP by American hip hop musician Aesop Rock. It was originally self-released in 1999, and reissued via Rhymesayers Entertainment in 2021. Produced by Aesop Rock himself, Omega One, and Blockhead, it features a guest appearance from Doseone. It peaked at number 70 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart.
Paris Joel Moore-Williams, better known by his stage name P Money, is a British grime MC, rapper and songwriter from New Cross, South East London, who is also active in the drum and bass scene. He is best known for his live performances as well as for songs such as "Slang Like This", "Anthemic" and "Round the Clock". N.E was the founding member of Lewisham-based grime crew OGz and P Money released one album with the group entitled OGz Season Vol. 1. He also appeared on the sixth edition of highly popular grime DVD Lord of the Mics in a grime clash (battle).
Benedict Okwuchukwu Godwin Chijioke, better known by his stage name Ty, was a Nigerian-British rapper. He released the albums Awkward (2001), Upwards (2003), Closer (2006), Special Kind of Fool (2010) and A Work of Heart (2018). Upwards was nominated for a Mercury Prize. Gerald Joshua Walker, is an American rapper and singer from Chicago, Illinois. He signed to fellow Midwestern rapper Stalley's label, Blue Collar Gang in 2018. Walker is known for his soul influenced style of hip-hop, and his association with rappers Layzie Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Yelawolf, Skyzoo and Rockie Fresh, as well as record producer Cardo.

First discovered by French Montana during a recording session in Chinatown in early 2009, Fraud has since worked on each of his releases and become a fixture in the New York underground hip hop scene. "Cabaret" is a song recorded by American singer and songwriter Justin Timberlake for his fourth studio album, The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2 (2013). Featuring a rap verse by Canadian rapper Drake, the song was written and produced by Timberlake, Timothy "Timbaland" Mosley, Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon and Daniel Jones, with additional writing from James Fauntleroy and Drake. "Cabaret" is a pop and soul song which features beatboxing, handclapping, guitars and keyboards in its composition. Music critics noted its similarity to Timbaland's earlier works with singer Aaliyah and Timberlake's 2006 single "My Love". Lyrically, it finds the singer comparing his love to a burlesque and features sexually oriented lyrics.

Rosalind Elizabeth "Rozzi" Crane is an American singer-songwriter from San Francisco. At 19 years old, Crane made her name known by being discovered by Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine. American rapper Angel Haze has released one studio album, one internet album, two extended plays (EPs), four mixtapes and nineteen singles. In July 2012, after releasing two prior mixtapes, Haze released a mixtape Reservation online for free. The title is inspired by the act of reserving a table at a restaurant, saying "[...] For me, it's like that with the rap industry. I made my reservation there [...] and now I'm finally arriving". The lead single "New York" peaked at number 58 on the UK Singles Chart, and number 12 on the UK R&B Singles Chart. Shortly after, Haze released a commercial EP compiled of tracks from Reservation, titled New York, followed by a fourth mixtape, Classick. Throughout late 2013, during the run-up to the release of the debut album, Haze released a cover of a popular song every day, for thirty days. Most famous from these freestyles was the adaptation of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's track "Same Love", which discusses childhood, prejudice, homophobia and sexuality. The series was dubbed 30 Gold.

"Crave" is a song by American singer-songwriter Madonna and American rapper Swae Lee, from the former's fourteenth studio Madame X (2019). The song was written by the two artists and Starrah, while production was handled by Madonna, Mike Dean, and Billboard. It was released by Interscope Records for digital download and streaming as the album's second single on May 10, 2019. The song has been noted as a pop, trap, and hip hop ballad inspired by Fado music, with the lyrics talking about desire and craving for someone who's running away. It was one of the first songs Madonna wrote for Madame X, but she put the work on hold when she began working with other musicians in Lisbon. When she revisited the song, Madonna came to the conclusion that a male voice was needed for inclusion and approached Swae Lee to sing with her, as she was a fan of his voice.
"You're Mines Still" is a song by American rapper Yung Bleu. It was released on October 2, 2020, as the third track from his EP Love Scars: The 5 Stages of Emotions. A remix featuring Canadian rapper Drake was released on October 16, 2020, as part of the deluxe version of the EP and was later included on his debut studio album Moon Boy (2021). The remix came about after basketball player DeMarcus Cousins reached out to both artists, urging them to collaborate. The soft, melodic song finds the two harmonizing about their ex-lovers who they still hold on to. An unofficial remix called "You're Not Mines Still" was made by Chloe Bailey, one half of the duo Chloe x Halle.
