Paris Jones (born Patrick Campbell, July 12, 1990 [1] ) is an American singer, musician and producer from California and Virginia. His style has been described as experimental, eclectic and new age. [2] [3]
Campbell was born in Inglewood, California and raised in Palmdale. He credits his father with being the earliest influence on his music, saying that he "bought me my first DJ set (2 turntables and a 2 channel mixer before Serato lol) when I was 10 years old. He invested in my musical gifts every opportunity he could." [4] He was once suspended from school for battle rapping. [5]
He later attended Liberty University in Virginia. [6] On his second day of college, one of his best friends in California was fatally shot, and Campbell increasingly turned to music as an outlet for his feelings. [7] Early in his career, he adopted the stage name "Paris Jones": "Paris is for the finer things. People have joneses for shoes, etc. I have a Jones for living above the mediocre lives most are expected to just accept and live." [8]
In 2010, Jones released a single "Popular" with a sample from the Broadway musical Wicked ; when Kanye West released a video in which he used the same sample, false rumors began to spread that West had signed Jones. [9] [10]
In 2011, Jones met with executives at several major record labels but was not signed. He later described this as a blessing in disguise, preferring to maintain independent control of his own music. [11] The Source named him its Unsigned Hype in October 2012. [12]
Starting in 2011, he began work on the material that would become You’re Invited to the Assassination of Patrick Campbell… The album explores the process of Jones shedding his identity and baggage as "Patrick Campbell" to become a new, mature individual and artist. [13] [14] The album debuted in 2013 on Yahoo! Music, which described it as "Auto-Tune ballads ("Ashley Brown"), easy, soul-stirring mid-tempos ("Okay"), drum and bass infused underground hip-hop tracks ("Name Droppin'"), spacey, hypnotic metaphor treats ("Birds And Horses") and an experimental interpretation of Drake's "I'll Take Care Of You" that has been slowed down to chopped and screwed like speed." "You're Invited…" received positive reviews, particularly its track "Summer". [16] The track "Okay" on which Angel Haze appears was also singled out for praise by several reviewers. Ghettoblaster magazine described Jones and Haze as "one hell of a tag team." [17] Jenesis wrote that listeners were "in for a treat." [18] Yahoo! Music wrote that Jones "intermixes his singing and raps with ease and is free enough to take on topics that introspective or braggadocio." [19] Crave praised the "enchantingly smooth gravity in the track framework to Jones' soulful flow. [20] Earmilk wrote that "Everything from the album title to the politically charged images to which you can find on his Instagram just screams unique. The vision that Paris Jones has for his music is definitely something I've not seen for quite a while." [21]
Jones released one EP a month throughout 2014, titling each after the month of its release. He stated in an interview that he was inspired by the prolific creation of 2pac and J Dilla, and wanted to train himself to produce music constantly. [22] Jerard Fagerberg of the Boston Globe site BDCWire praised "the extremely dedicated work" but noted that "'December' surely isn’t his most gripping entry." [23]
Jones' song "You Like Me" has become a popular source for remixes, most notably by OZZIE and Tails. [24]
Jones produced the track "Gypsy Letters" on Angel Haze’s mixtape Reservation [25] and has produced for Nitty Scott, MC. [26]
Slim Shady EP is the only extended play by American rapper Eminem, released on December 10, 1997, through the Detroit-based record label Web Entertainment. Unlike his debut album Infinite, Slim Shady EP helped Eminem gain the interest of CEO Jimmy Iovine and West Coast hip-hop rapper and producer Dr. Dre, who subsequently signed Eminem to his Aftermath Entertainment record label, and served as executive producer on his major-label debut album The Slim Shady LP (1999).
Cameron Ezike Giles, better known by his stage name Cam'ron, is an American rapper. Beginning his career in the early-1990s as Killa Cam, Giles signed with Lance "Un" Rivera's Untertainment, an imprint of Epic Records to release his first two studio albums Confessions of Fire (1998) and S.D.E. (2000); the former received gold certification by the RIAA. After leaving Epic, Giles signed with Roc-A-Fella Records in 2001 to release his third studio album Come Home with Me the following year. It received platinum certification by the RIAA and contained his highest-charting singles to date: "Oh Boy" and "Hey Ma", which peaked at numbers four and three respectively on the Billboard Hot 100. His fourth studio album, Purple Haze was released in 2004 to continued success, receiving gold certification by the RIAA.
"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" is a satirical poem and song by Gil Scott-Heron. Scott-Heron first recorded it for his 1970 album Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, on which he recited the lyrics, accompanied by congas and bongo drums. A re-recorded version, with a full band, was the B-side to Scott-Heron's first single, "Home Is Where the Hatred Is", from his album Pieces of a Man (1971). It was also included on his compilation album, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised (1974). All these releases were issued on the Flying Dutchman Productions record label.
Appleseed is an EP by American hip hop musician Aesop Rock. It was originally self-released in 1999, and reissued via Rhymesayers Entertainment in 2021. Produced by Aesop Rock himself, Omega One, and Blockhead, it features a guest appearance from Doseone. It peaked at number 70 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart.

"Cabaret" is a song recorded by American singer and songwriter Justin Timberlake for his fourth studio album, The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2 (2013). Featuring a rap verse by Canadian rapper Drake, the song was written and produced by Timberlake, Timothy "Timbaland" Mosley, Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon and Daniel Jones, with additional writing from James Fauntleroy and Drake. "Cabaret" is a pop and soul song which features beatboxing, handclapping, guitars and keyboards in its composition. Music critics noted its similarity to Timbaland's earlier works with singer Aaliyah and Timberlake's 2006 single "My Love". Lyrically, it finds the singer comparing his love to a burlesque and features sexually oriented lyrics.

American rapper Angel Haze has released one studio album, one internet album, two extended plays (EPs), four mixtapes and nineteen singles. In July 2012, after releasing two prior mixtapes, Haze released a mixtape Reservation online for free. The title is inspired by the act of reserving a table at a restaurant, saying "[...] For me, it's like that with the rap industry. I made my reservation there [...] and now I'm finally arriving". The lead single "New York" peaked at number 58 on the UK Singles Chart, and number 12 on the UK R&B Singles Chart. Shortly after, Haze released a commercial EP compiled of tracks from Reservation, titled New York, followed by a fourth mixtape, Classick. Throughout late 2013, during the run-up to the release of the debut album, Haze released a cover of a popular song every day, for thirty days. Most famous from these freestyles was the adaptation of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's track "Same Love", which discusses childhood, prejudice, homophobia and sexuality. The series was dubbed 30 Gold.

Reservation received critical acclaim from critics, receiving an 88/100 score from aggregate review site Metacritic, while the BBC named it one of the best mixtapes of 2012.

After years of releasing his music for free online, Vitale released his twelfth studio album, There's Really a Wolf, in May 2017 through Columbia Records. The album was met with critical and commercial success, attaining platinum certification a year after its release, and spawning the minor hit singles: "What They Want", "Losin Control" and "Best on Earth", peaking respectively at number 83, 63, and 46 on the US Billboard Hot 100. His thirteenth and fourteenth albums, Zoo (2018) and Shake the Snow Globe (2020), saw similar success, as both peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard 200. Outside of his solo career, he is part the Atlanta-based hip hop collective Diemon.
Christopher Brent Wood, known professionally as Brent Faiyaz, is an American R&B singer from Columbia, Maryland. He rose to prominence following his guest feature alongside Shy Glizzy on GoldLink's 2016 single "Crew." The song peaked at number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received sextuple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), as well as a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The following year, he released his debut album, Sonder Son (2017).
