2020-2023 Parliament of Montenegro was convocation of the Parliament of Montenegro, elected in the 2020 parliamentary election.
The first session of Parliament was held on 23 September 2020. The leader of Democratic Montenegro, Aleksa Bečić, was elected president. A parliamentary majority was also formed, consisting of coalitions of the ZBCG, MjNN and CnB. This is the first majority since independence that does not include the Democratic Party of Socialists. Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović was not present at the session. [1]
All 41 opposition deputies nominated Zdravko Krivokapić as their candidate for the post of prime minister. [2] After negotiations, Krivokapić Cabinet took office on 4 December 2020. [3] [4]
The government fell in a vote of no confidence on 4 February 2022, initiated by URA leader Dritan Abazović. [5] On 28 April 2022, after parliamentary and government crisis, Parliament approved the Abazović Cabinet. [6] A new parliament speaker, Danijela Đurović from the Socialist People's Party, was also elected. [7]
On 20 August 2022, the Parliament of Montenegro passed a motion of no confidence against Abazović's government, which ended his premiership. [8]
The Politics of Montenegro takes place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic, whereby the Prime Minister of Montenegro is the head of government, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Parliament of Montenegro. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature. The Economist Intelligence Unit rated Montenegro a "flawed democracy" in 2022.
The Democratic Front was a right-wing populist and socially conservative political alliance in Montenegro. It was composed of the New Serb Democracy, Movement for Changes and Democratic People's Party, with some other minor parties as the alliance's partners at the local level, while United Montenegro and Workers' Party were external members of the Democratic Front parliamentary group. The alliance was formed mainly to overthrow the Democratic Party of Socialists, the party in power from the introduction of the multi-party system until the 2020 parliamentary election.
Dritan Abazović is a Montenegrin politician who has been the prime minister of Montenegro since 28 April 2022. An ethnic Albanian, he heads the United Reform Action party. He previously served as deputy prime minister in the cabinet of Zdravko Krivokapić from 2020 until 2022. Abazovic is the first ethnic Albanian and first Muslim to serve as Prime Minister of Montenegro. He is currently the fourth-youngest state leader in the world.
Aleksa Bečić is a Montenegrin politician, current member of Parliament of Montenegro, who served as the president of the Parliament from 2020 until 2022. He is the founder and current president of the centrist political party Democratic Montenegro.
Ivan Brajović is a Montenegrin politician. He is a former President of the Parliament of Montenegro and former Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs in the government of Montenegro. He is the founder and current president of the Social Democrats of Montenegro (SD) political party.
Raško Konjević is a Montenegrin politician serving as the deputy prime minister of Montenegro and the minister of defence since 28 April 2022. He is the current president of the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SDP). He previously served as the member of the Parliament of Montenegro.
For the Future of Montenegro is a mainly cultural conservative and populist pre-election opposition political coalition in Montenegro, formed for the 2020 and 2023 parliamentary elections. It has been described as a grouping that is "pro-Serbian". The coalition common list for 2020 election was led by a Montenegrin university professor, Zdravko Krivokapić. The leader of the list in 2023 is Milan Knežević.

Jakov Milatović is a Montenegrin politician and economist who is the incumbent president of Montenegro, serving since May 2023. He previously served as the minister of economic development in the cabinet of Zdravko Krivokapić from 2020 to 2022, and as an economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London and Podgorica. He is the co-founder and deputy leader of the liberal and pro-European Europe Now! party, currently the largest single political party in the Montenegrin parliament.
Parliamentary elections were held in Montenegro on 11 June 2023. Parliament had been dissolved by president Milo Đukanović just three days before the 2023 presidential election was held, where he lost to Europe Now! candidate Jakov Milatović.
Ne damo Crnu Goru, lit. 'We won't give up Montenegro', is a moderate right, pro-EU, pro-Serbian Orthodox Church, political organization in Montenegro. It became an influential civil and political movement during the 2020 religion law prostests. The group was founded by Montenegrin professors and intellectuals in support of the Serbian Orthodox Church-led protests after a controversial religion law targeted the legal status and the property of the Church. Its founder and first chairman was university professor Zdravko Krivokapić, who led the opposition party For the Future of Montenegro at the 2020 parliamentary election.
The Civic Platform "In Black and White", also branded as "In Black and White - The Citizens", known colloquially just as the In Black and White, was a social liberal, green and pro-European political platform and electoral list in Montenegro, launched by the Civic Movement URA, as well supported by European Greens prior to the 2020 parliamentary election.
The Citizens' Union "Civis", commonly known as simply as Civis, is a minor liberal and pro-European political party in Montenegro formed in 2020 from the non-governmental organization of the same name. Its founder and current leader is Srđan Pavićević, a surgeon and civic activist, who is also serving as the party's single representative in the Parliament of Montenegro, elected from the list of United Reform Action at the August 2020 parliamentary election.
A series of violent protests against the enthronement of Joanikije Mićović of the Serbian Orthodox Church as the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral took place at the historic Cetinje Monastery in September 2021.
On January 17, 2022, the smallest of three ruling constituents in the Parliament of Montenegro, United Reform Action, proposed a potential solution in the form of a minority government, as an answer to the political crisis that has been plaguing the country since the summer of 2021, when the largest ruling constituent, the Democratic Front stepped out, putting the parliament into an effective blockade. The proposed minority government would consist of the United Reform Action, Civis, Socialist People's Party of Montenegro, Bosniak Party, Democratic Party, New Democratic Force, and Albanian Alternative. Even though the parties mentioned have 14 seats in the parliament, Dritan Abazović, the Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro and the president of the United Reform Action, stated that he expects the support of either the opposition or the ruling parties, or ideally both, and has invited all 81 MPs of the Montenegrin parliament to support the initiative.
The Abazović Cabinet is the 43rd cabinet of Montenegro. It was elected on 28 April 2022 by a majority vote in the parliament. The minority government is composed of Civic Movement URA, Socialist People's Party, Bosniak Party, Albanian Coalition and Albanian List and was supported by the Democratic Party of Socialists and Liberal Party.
Danijela Đurović is a Montenegrin politician serving as the president of the Parliament of Montenegro since 28 April 2022. She was a vice president of the Socialist People's Party (SNP) from 2017 to 2021.

Danijel Živković is a Montenegrin politician serving as a member of the Parliament of Montenegro since 1 July 2017 and the acting president of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) since 6 April 2023. He succeeded the long-term DPS president Milo Đukanović who resigned following his loss to Jakov Milatović in the 2023 presidential election.
