The Parliamentary Conference on the World Trade Organization is a group that is organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the European Parliament. [1] Its steering committee is composed of around 30 representatives from various member parliaments. [2] According to Debra Steger,
"the overwhelming success of the Parliamentary Conferences on the WTO reflects the great interest of parliamentarians in the work of the WTO, as well as the need for an international forum that will provide legislators from different countries with an opportunity to exchange views and contribute to WTO decision-making." [3]

The WTO officially commenced on 1 January 1995 under the Marrakesh Agreement, signed by 123 nations on 15 April 1994, replacing the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), which commenced in 1948. A United Nations Parliamentary Assembly (UNPA) is a proposed addition to the United Nations System that would allow for greater participation and voice for Members of Parliament. The Commission on Global Security, Justice and Governance, chaired by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Nigerian Foreign Minister Ibrahim Gambari, has called for the creation of a United Nations Parliamentary Network "to raise greater awareness and participation by strengthening the voices of legislators in global institutions." The commission proposes that this Network "would be similar in initial composition to the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and International Monetary Fund and the Parliamentary Conference on the World Trade Organization".
Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) is a non-profit, non-partisan international network of committed legislators, informs and mobilizes parliamentarians in all regions of the world to advocate for human rights and the rule of law, democracy, human security, non-discrimination, and gender equality.
