Satara district is a district of Maharashtra state in western India with an area of 10,480 km² and a population of 3,003,741 of which 14.17% were urban. Satara is the capital of the district and other major towns include Wai, Karad, ,Koregaon, Dahiwadi, Koynanagar, Rahimatpur, Phaltan, Mahabaleshwar, Vaduj and Panchgani. This district comes under Pune Administrative Division along with Pune, Sangli, Solapur and Kolhapur. The district of Pune bounds it to the north, Raigad bounds it to the North-West, Solapur the east, Sangli to the south, and Ratnagiri to the west.

Maharashtra State in western India

Maharashtra is a state in the western peninsular region of India occupying a substantial portion of the Deccan plateau. It is the second-most populous state and third-largest state by area in India. Spread over 307,713 km2 (118,809 sq mi), it is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, the Indian states of Karnataka and Goa to the south, Telangana and Chhattisgarh to the east, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to the north, and the Indian union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli to the north west. Swades is a 2004 Indian drama film written, produced and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, based on the true life story of a Non-resident Indian (NRI) man who returns to his homeland. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Gayatri Joshi, Kishori Ballal in leading roles, with Daya Shankar Pandey, Rajesh Vivek, Lekh Tandon appearing in supporting role and Makrand Deshpande in a special appearance. The film is considered ahead of its times which upon release received widespread critical acclaim and is now considered a cult classic of Hindi cinema. Omkara is a 2006 Indian crime tragedy film adapted from Shakespeare’s Othello, co-written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. It starred Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles, supported by Vivek Oberoi, Konkona Sen Sharma and Bipasha Basu. The director Vishal Bhardwaj himself composed the entire music for the film, including the background score, with lyrics by Gulzar. The film is set in Meerut, a town in Western Uttar Pradesh.

<i>Parava</i> (film) 2016 film by Soubin Shahir

Parava is a Malayalam drama film directed by Soubin Shahir with a script jointly written by Shahir and Muneer Ali. It is Shahir's directorial debut film and stars Amal Shah, Govind V. Pai and Shane Nigam in the lead roles, along with an extended cameo appearance by Dulquer Salmaan. Principal photography began at Fort Kochi, Ernakulam on 1 June 2016. The film was released on 21 September 2017. Soubin Shahir won the Special Jury Award in the Asianet Film Awards for directing the film.
