William "Willie" D. Davenport was an American sprint runner.
The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are a Minor League Baseball team of the Midwest League and the High-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. They are located in Grand Chute, Wisconsin, a town on the outskirts of Appleton in the Fox Cities, and are named for the timber rattlesnake, which is more commonly found in southwest Wisconsin. The team plays their home games at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium, which opened in 1995. They previously played at Goodland Field from their founding in 1958 until the end of the 1994 season.
The Jackson Generals were a professional baseball team located in Jackson, Tennessee. From 1998 to 2020, they were a part of Minor League Baseball's Southern League (SL) as the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs (1998–2006), Seattle Mariners (2007–2016), and Arizona Diamondbacks (2017–2020). Known as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx from 1998 to 2010, the team borrowed its Generals moniker from the original Jackson Generals in 2011. They played their home games at The Ballpark at Jackson, which opened in 1998.
The Elizabethton Twins were a Minor League Baseball team of the Appalachian League and a Rookie-level affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. They were located in Elizabethton, Tennessee, and were named for their major league affiliate. The team played its home games at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark, which opened in 1974.
Vincent Joseph Boryla was an American basketball player, coach and executive. His nickname was "Moose". He graduated from East Chicago Washington High School in 1944. He played basketball at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Denver, where he was named a consensus All-American in 1949. Boryla was part of the U.S. team that won the gold medal at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London.
Patrick Lewis Studstill Jr. was an American professional football player who was a wide receiver, punter and return specialist. He played 12 years in the National Football League (NFL) for the Detroit Lions (1961–1967), Los Angeles Rams (1968–1971), and New England Patriots (1972). He led the NFL with 457 punt return yards in 1962. In 1966, he led the league in both receiving yards (1,266) and punting yards (3,259). He also tied an NFL record in 1966 with a 99-yard touchdown reception.
George Floyd Jr. is an American former professional football player who was a defensive back for two seasons with the New York Jets in the National Football League. Growing up in Brooksville, Florida, Floyd attended Hernando High School, where he was selected for The Tampa Tribune's all-area football team in all three of his varsity years. Floyd played college football for the Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Colonels, and won the 1979 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I-AA football championship.
Matthew Owen Gribble was an American high school and college competitive swimmer, 1982 World Aquatics champion, two-time U.S. Olympic team member, and an August 1983 world record-holder in the 100-meter butterfly. He also swam on a 4x100 U.S. medley relay team at the August 1982 World Aquatics championships that set a world record of 3:40.84.
Ruth Modupe Lawanson is a former volleyball player and college volleyball coach. Born in Nigeria, she played volleyball for Fresno State and the United States national team, winning a bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
Osvald Käpp was an Estonian wrestler who competed in freestyle and Greco-Roman lightweight events at the 1924, 1928 and 1932 Summer Olympics. He won the freestyle contest in 1928 and served as the Olympic flag bearer for Estonia in 1932. He also won two medals in Greco-Roman wrestling at the European championships in 1926–27.
Billie Patricia "Pat" Daniels is a retired female pentathlete and track and field coach from the United States, who was the U.S. track and field national champion in the 800 m in 1960 and 1961 and in the pentathlon from 1961 to 1967 and in 1970. She was national long jump champion in 1967. She won the gold medal in the pentathlon at the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada. A three-time Olympian, she placed seventh in 1964 and sixth in 1968. She first represented the US in 1960, running just five days after her 17th birthday, days before beginning her senior year at Capuchino High School in San Bruno, California.
Michael Mackay McIntyre MBE is a British sailor, who was the Olympic champion in the Star class event at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. He also competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and won multiple British Finn class championships. In 1989, McIntyre was awarded an MBE for services to yachting.
Patrick Maloney Calhoun is an American former competitive swimmer. At the 2000 Summer Olympics, Calhoun competed in the preliminary heats of the men's 100-meter breaststroke event, and posted a time of 1:03.30.
Martin Willock is a Canadian former cyclist. He competed in the team time trial event at the 1984 Summer Olympics.
The 1983 Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team represented the University of Tulsa during the 1983 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their seventh year under head coach John Cooper, the Golden Hurricane compiled an 8–3 record and won the Missouri Valley Conference championship.
Derick "Ringo" Adamson" is a Jamaican former marathon runner. He competed at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games, the 1990 Commonwealth Games, and also won the 1984 and 1985 Philadelphia Marathons.
The 1984 Central Michigan Chippewas football team represented Central Michigan University in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) during the 1984 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their seventh season under head coach Herb Deromedi, the Chippewas compiled an 8–2–1 record, finished in third place in the MAC standings, and outscored their opponents, 282 to 141. The team played its home games in Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, with attendance of 145,273 in seven home games.
