Pat Forde is a sports journalist who is a national columnist for Sports Illustrated . He previously worked for ESPN, The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, and Yahoo Sports .

Personal life and education

Forde is a native of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He currently lives in Louisville with his wife Tricia, [1] a former swimmer at Northwestern University. [2] All three of their children were college swimmers—son Mitchell at Missouri from 2013 to 2017, another son Clayton at Georgia from 2016 to 2020, and daughter Brooke at Stanford from 2017 to 2022. [3] Brooke was a silver medalist in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 as part of the USA 4 × 200m freestyle relay team. [2]

Forde played high school football for Gary Barnett during his sophomore and junior years (1980–81) at Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs. [4] [5] He is a 1987 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.

Career

The Courier-Journal

Forde began his career in 1987 working as a journalist for The Courier-Journal, where his writing won numerous awards. [6] He initially worked there as a beat reporter and then spent 12 years writing a column.

ESPN

In 2004, Forde left The Courier-Journal to join ESPN full-time after freelancing for their website for about seven years. [1] During the NCAA football season, Forde wrote a column called "Forde Yard Dash", and during the NCAA basketball season, he wrote a column called "Forde Minutes". He also appeared on ESPN radio and television.

Yahoo! Sports

On November 1, 2011, after the expiration of his contract, Forde left ESPN to pursue a career with Yahoo Sports. There, he resumed his weekly "Forde Yard Dash" and, later, his "Forde Minutes" column as well.

Sports Illustrated

On October 29, 2019, Forde joined Sports Illustrated as its new senior college sports writer. He continues to write both "Forde-Yard Dash" and "Forde Minutes" for SI. [7]

Feud with Auburn

Forde has a nationally known feud with Auburn University, specifically with the university's men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl. Forde's excessive criticism of Pearl has led many fans and Sports Illustrated readers to assume that Forde has an unhealthy dislike for Pearl. Such articles have caused a plethora of Auburn fans, specifically those that are X users, to retaliate to Forde's writings with an assorted bombardment of memes. [8]

In 2008, Forde served as the co-author for University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino's Rebound Rules: The Art of Success 2.0. [9]

Thomas M. Jurich is a former American college sports administrator and former football player. He previously served as the vice president and director of athletics at the University of Louisville. He was hired at the University of Louisville on October 21, 1997, after holding the same positions at Colorado State University and Northern Arizona University, and was fired on October 18, 2017, following a pay-for-play corruption scandal in NCAA basketball. On October 1, 2007, Jurich and the university entered into a contract that runs through July 26, 2023. The agreement was an extension of an agreement that began April 1, 2004. In 2007, Jurich was selected Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal/SportsBusiness Daily National Athletic Director of the year.

The Cincinnati–Louisville rivalry is a college sports rivalry between the University of Cincinnati Bearcats and the University of Louisville Cardinals. The rivalry between these two schools, located about 100 miles (160 km) apart, dates to their first men's college basketball game in 1921, and has continued across all sports, with the football series gaining attention as well, having started in 1929. Both universities share common characteristics, both being over 200 year old institutions in urban settings. The schools have also shared conferences historically, with the rivalry stretching over the span of four conferences from the Missouri Valley Conference, to the Metro Conference to Conference USA, and more recently in the Big East Conference, which in 2013 was renamed to the American Athletic Conference. The 2017–18 Louisville Cardinals men's basketball team represented the University of Louisville during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team played its home games on Denny Crum Court at the KFC Yum! Center in downtown Louisville, Kentucky as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They were led by interim head coach David Padgett after former head coach Rick Pitino was fired due to an FBI investigation into the school. They finished the season 22–14 overall, and 9–9 in ACC conference play, finishing in a tie for 8th with Florida State, who they defeated in the second round of the ACC tournament before losing to Virginia in the quarterfinals. They received an invitation to the NIT, where they defeated Northern Kentucky in the first round and Middle Tennessee in the second round before being defeated in the quarterfinals by Mississippi State.

The 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball corruption scandal was a corruption scandal, initially involving sportswear manufacturer Adidas as well as several college basketball programs associated with the brand but now involving many programs not affiliated with Adidas.
