The Patiala Municipal Corporation is a nagar nigam (municipal corporation) which administers the city of Patiala, Punjab. It has 60 members elected with a first-past-the-post voting system and 3 ex-officio members which are MLAs for Patiala, Patiala Rural, and Sanour. The corporation was founded on 24 September 1997, and the first elections were held in June 2002. [4]

Mayor

The mayor of Patiala is the elected chief of the Municipal Corporation of Patiala. The mayor is the first citizen of the city. The role is largely ceremonial as the real powers are vested in the Municipal Commissioner. [5] The mayor plays a decorative role of representing and upholding the dignity of the city and a functional role in deliberating over the discussions in the Corporation. [6]

Its scope covers Sikh and Punjabi culture. The library funded by The Nanakshahi Trust was launched online in August 2009. Its base office is located at Chandigarh, India.

Mohali is also the headquarters of the Mohali district. There are 50 wards of the city. There was 60.48% voter turnout in first election held on 22 February 2015.

Kulwant Singh is a businessman and politician who is currently a Member of Legislative Assembly from SAS Nagar and is the first Mayor of Mohali (Punjab). He is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Municipal elections were held in the Indian state of Punjab on 14 February 2021; the result was declared on 17 February. Narinder Kaur Bharaj is an Indian politician and lawyer, and the member of legislative assembly from Sangrur Assembly constituency. She defeated the incumbent cabinet minister Vijay Inder Singla of Indian National Congress in 2022 elections. Also, she became the youngest MLA in Punjab. She is also District youth president of Aam Aadmi Party.

Ajit Pal Singh Kohli is an Indian politician and businessman. He is a former Mayor of and the MLA from Patiala Assembly constituency. He is a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and serves as the party's state spokesman.
