Patrick G. Maggitti has been provost of Villanova University since 2015. He is the university's first provost. [1]
Maggitti was born and raised in Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania, the fifth of six children. He attended Allentown Central Catholic High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and then Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, where he received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and an MBA with honors from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, [2] and a PhD in strategic management from the University of Maryland in 2006. [3]
Prior to academia, Maggitti spent nearly 15 years in the steel and mining industries, where he founded two companies and held a variety of roles, including chief executive officer, director of national sales, and board member. He has also consulted with several Fortune 500 on various facets of strategy and entrepreneurship.
Maggitti previously served as the Helen and William O’Toole Dean of the Villanova School of Business, where he was a faculty member since 2008, and is also associate professor of Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship and the former Carmen and Sharon Danella Director of the Center for Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship (ICE Center) at the Villanova School of Business.
Maggitti has written for Research Policy, Journal of Management Studies, and the Academy of Management Journal.
Maggitti’s research interests focus on dynamic processes, including strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and market- and non-market-based competition. His research is highly cited by other scholars, [4] and a 2008 article he coauthored was identified by the Academy of Management as among the best papers for thought leadership in the field of entrepreneurship. Michael S. Tomczyk is best known for his role in guiding the development and launch of the first microcomputer to sell one million units, as Product Manager of the VIC-20 from Commodore. His contributions are described in detail in his 1984 book, THE HOME COMPUTER WARS: An Insider's True Account of Commodore and Jack Tramiel. His role is also documented extensively in numerous interviews and articles. The VIC-20 was the first affordable, full-featured color computer and the first home computer to be sold in KMart and other mass market outlets. Michael joined Commodore in April 1980 as Assistant to the President. He has been called the "marketing father" of the home computer. Michael was also a pioneer in telecomputing, as co-designer of the Commodore VICModem, which he conceived and contracted while at Commodore. The VICModem was the first modem priced under $100 and the first modem to sell one million units.

He is currently a professor at the Copenhagen Business School where he has spent most of his career.
