Patrick Nzuzi born (24 October 1992) is a Congolese footballer who represented the DR Congo national football team. [2] [3] [4]

Early life and education

Nzuzi was born in Lubumbashi, DR Congo to Pascal Longelo Nzuzi and Philomène Ibwata Wa Kucha. Patrick Nzuzi moved to the United Kingdom in 2005. He got into football at an early age and was signed by the academy of Newcastle United F.C. [5] [6]

He has a Bachelor's degree in Sport and Exercise Management from the University of Kent which was completed during his footballing career and a Master's in High performance sport completed in Barcelona, Spain. [7]

Career

Nzuzi joined the Newcastle United academy aged 13 in 2005 and signed his first professional contract at Newcastle United aged 18 in 2010. [8] [9] [10] [11]

Newcastle United

Nzuzi made his reserve team debut aged 16 against Rotherham, and impressed the first team manager, Chris Hughton. [12]

He captained the Under-18 team during the 2009–10 season and was part of the Newcastle United team that reached the FA Youth Cup semi-final in 2009–10. [13] [14] [15]

He scored his first Newcastle United Reserves goal against Bedlington on 1 February 2012. [16]

Limerick F.C.

His debut for Limerick F.C. came in a 1–1 Munster derby draw against Cork city. [17]

Nzuzi became a regular at Limerick F.C. He made over 50 appearances in two seasons for the newly promoted Munster side. [18] [19] [20] [21]

He was named as one of the top five young players in Ireland by goal.com in his first season. [22]

Sligo Rovers

Nzuzi was handed a one-year contract by interim boss and former Cameroon International, Joseph N'Do, however injuries saw him end his Sligo journey early in December 2015. [23] [24] [25]

DR Congo

Nzuzi made his debut for the DR Congo national football team in a U21 friendly against Austria. He went on to represent DR Congo at the Toulon Tournament held in 2014 in Toulon France where he faced the likes of France, Colombia, US and South Korea.

He was handed a first team debut in a friendly against Cameroon by Claude Le Roy.

The 2014 season was St. Patrick's Athletic F.C.'s 85th year in existence and was their 63rd consecutive season in the League of Ireland top division. It was the third year that Liam Buckley is the team's manager, following replacing Pete Mahon in December 2011. The Saints finished the previous season as the 2013 champions. The season was very successful on the field as the Saints began by winning the inaugural President's Cup and the Leinster Senior Cup. With the new change to the League of Ireland structure, 3 clubs were set to be relegated from the Premier Division, which has created an intense relegation between many clubs, including Pats' due to their lower budget than previous years following a poor 2016 season in which they finished 7th in the league, making 2017 the first year in 7 years without European football. The relegation battle went right down to the last day of the season, where Pat's secured the necessary point to stay up following a 1–1 draw away to Derry City.

The 2018 season was St. Patrick's Athletic F.C.'s 89th year in existence and was the Supersaints' 67th consecutive season in the top flight of Irish football. It was the seventh year that Liam Buckley is the team's manager, following replacing Pete Mahon in December 2011. Buckley resigned from his post as manager on 25 September with assistant Ger O'Brien taking over for the remainder of the season. It was the first year of the new format of the League of Ireland Premier Division where by there will be 10 teams playing each other four times, twice home and twice away. On 19 December 2017 the fixtures were announced with Pat's down to play champions Cork City on the opening day of the season on 16 February 2018.
