Paul Robert Doyle (born April 30,1963) is an American politician serving as a Democratic state senator from Connecticut since 2007. A resident of Wethersfield,Doyle represents the southern suburbs of Hartford in the Connecticut Senate,including the towns of Cromwell,Middletown,Newington,Rocky Hill,and Wethersfield.
Doyle was born in Hartford and received a B.A. in History from Colby College and his Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut. Prior to being elected in the Connecticut Senate,Doyle served on the Wethersfield Town Council and as a Connecticut State Representative. In 2006,he ran for the Connecticut Senate for the first time and won.
Doyle often votes independently of his party. He was one of three Democrats to support Governor M. Jodi Rell's plan for a Three Strikes Law against career violent criminals. He was one of two Democrats to oppose the 2011 transgender rights bill, [2] and was the only Democrat to vote against the New Britain–Hartford Busway. [3]

Rocky Hill is a town in Hartford County,Connecticut,United States. The town is part of the Capitol Planning Region. The population was 20,845 at the 2020 census. It was originally land of the Wangunks. Europeans began to settle the area of Rocky Hill in 1650,as part of Wethersfield,the neighboring town to the north. In 1722,the area became known as Stepney Parish,until it was independently incorporated in 1843. Rocky Hill’s location on the Connecticut River made it a natural port for Wethersfield and an early center for shipbuilding,agriculture,and trade.

Incumbent Democratic Governor Ned Lamont ran for re-election to a second term in office. The race simultaneously took place with the election to the state's Class III Senate seat. This election featured a rematch of the previous 2018 gubernatorial election,pitting Lamont against Republican Bob Stefanowski,who he previously defeated by 3.2% of the vote. This time Lamont won re-election by a wider margin,becoming the first Democrat to win a gubernatorial election by more than 5 points in the state since 1986. This is the first time since 1994 that Tolland County voted Democratic in a gubernatorial election.
